  • Patent number: 4094861
Abstract: Non-inflammable, high molecular weight polytriazines are obtained by condensing less than 3 mols of polyfunctional (amino)phenols with 1 mol phosphorus (oxy) trihalide in the presence of a base, subsequently reacting the still free primary amino or phenolic hydroxyl groups with cyanogen halide in the presence of a base to form cyanamide or organic ester groups and polymerizing thereafter the reaction product at a temperature of up to 350.degree. C, optionally in the presence of polymerization promoters. The polytriazine may be used as plastics and lacquers.

  • Patent number: 4066577
Abstract: High molecular weight temperature-resistant polymers of polytriazine structure obtained by heating cyanamides of the formula Ir -- (nh-cn).sub.nin which R represents an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, heterocyclic or aromatic radical, optionally interrupted by oxygen and n is a number from 2 to 5, with polyfunctional, aromatic cyanic acid esters into a fusible or in organic solvents soluble polymeric N-cyano-isourea ether and completing the reaction at elevated temperatures and optionally in the presence of a catalyst to form said polymer of polytriazine structure.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 22, 1976
Date of Patent: January 3, 1978
    Assignee: Bayer Aktiengesellschaft

  • Patent number: 4059567
Abstract: Polyfunctional aminophenols or amino(alkyl)phenols are converted with cyano halide in the presence of a base at temperatures below 65.degree. C into the corresponding aromatic cyanic acid esters containing cyanamide groups and thereafter at 65.degree. C to 150.degree. C into prepolymers which are soluble in organic solvents and highly stable in storage. The prepolymers may be converted into high molecular weight polymers of triazine structure by heating to 150.degree. C to 350.degree. C. The end products are insoluble in solvents and are infusible. The prepolymers may be used for the production coatings, shaped articles or laminates.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 22, 1976
Date of Patent: November 22, 1977
    Assignee: Bayer Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Rudolf Sundermann, Gunther Rottloff, Ernst Grigat
  • Patent number: 4046796
Abstract: Highly pure aromatic polyfunctional cyanic acid esters having a high stability in storage and being extraordinary suitable for use as starting compound for the production of plastics by cyclopoly-trimerization are obtained by a special process. Alkaline earth and/or alkali metal salts of polyfunctional aromatic hydroxy compounds said alkaline earth and/or alkali metal compound capable of phenolate formation are used in excess of up to 0.1 mol per mol of aromatic hydroxy group are reacted with an excess of cyanogen halide. The cyanogen halide excess comprises up to 1 mol per mol of aromatic hydroxy group plus excess mol of the metal compound used for salt production.

  • Patent number: 4031067
Abstract: Mixtures of aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic polyfunctional N-cyanosulfon amides and aromatic polyfunctional cyanic acid ester are converted at 30.degree. to 150.degree. C into fusible prepolymers or prepolymers soluble in organic solvents (polymeric N-organo-isourea ethers). Said prepolymers are highly stable in storage and react at 150.degree. - 350.degree.
