    Abstract: One or more temperature sensing elements, for example thermo couples (13, 14, 16, 17), NTC or PTC or resistance wires (18) or capillary fluid temperature sensor elements (20, 21) are located on or in the immediate vicinity of a portion of the inner wall of the combustion chamber, for example and preferably by being integrated within a head liner or facing (15, 15') of the cylinder head gasket or seal (10). The output signals, in electrical or hydraulic form are connected to an evaluation stage (E, E') which determines if the temperature within the cylinder, representative of knocking, has exceeded a predetermined level. Preferably, a speed signal (n) is derived from the engine so that the signals from the sensing elements can be strobed with respect to the time within the engine cycle during which ignition may or is intended to occur so that temperature variations due to normal engine operating strokes are eliminated from the systems output.

    Abstract: A rocket engine includes a housing which defines a combustion chamber and a thrust nozzle connected to the combustion chamber and having an opposite end terminating in a thrust discharge. The thrust nozzle includes a rear section which includes walls or channels defined for transmitting a fluid in heat exchange relationship with the walls of the rear section advantageously as a regenerative cooling. The thrust nozzle also includes a rear section which terminates in a discharge opening or series of discharge openings at the rear end thereof which aids in the thrust generation. The rear thrust nozzle section is provided with one or more inlet openings and with a plurality of discharges or outlets which open into the interior of the thrust nozzle section and provide a film cooling along the interior wall thereof at spaced axial or longitudinal locations along the thrust nozzle.

    Abstract: A dismantable reel for wire coils includes first and second circular flanges. An annular channel is formed at least in the first flange and a hub is supported within the channel for axial movement relative to the flange. A plurality of expandable and retractable core segments depend from the hub and are selectively engageable with the outer surface of a wire coil to retain the coil within the reel. An axial core tube is supported concentrically within the hub and is movable axially relative thereto. Spreadable link members are disposed between the core segments and the axial core tube. A hollow axle is carried rotatably by the hub within the axial core tube. Such axle is also movable axially relative to the hub. The lower end of the axle is threaded and is cooperable with threads provided on the second flange whereby the second flange is releasably connectable therewith.

    Abstract: A method of separating certain components of a gas mixture in which the gas mixture is cooled and certain components are separated in a liquid or solid state characterized by introducing the gas mixture into a separator tank, adding a cooling agent such as a liquid or cold inert gas so as to cool the gas mixture and separating component in a solid state and subsequently fusing the separated solid into a liquid in a collecting tank. The concentrated gas mixture to be separated is directly removed from its place of use and directly supplied to the separator tank without allowing any further admixture of secondary air. The device for carrying out the method comprises an insulated tank to which air having entrained sulfer dioxide is introduced. The air flow is controlled so that it is oriented in a particular direction and it is passed beyond nozzles for injecting an inert gas such as liquid nitrogen into the interior of the insulated tank.

    Abstract: In order to permit diagnosis of operation and function parameters in a motor vehicle which is equipped with an electronic microprocessor control system without the necessity of providing in the diagnostic equipment substantial additional memory capability, the control system includes a sub-program for diagnosis. A first subprogram executed by the control system in response to a command from the diagnostic equipment gives the appropriate actual operational data to the diagnostic equipment. A second subprogram simulates nominal values for specific vehicle data under various operating conditions and compares these with the actual values. The resulting information is given to an operator by a display and can additionally include various instructions, e.g. repair instructions or a trouble shooting sequence based on the diagnosis.
