  • Patent number: 5261654
Abstract: A sheet conveyor table for delivering sheets from a printing press has upper and lower portions. The lower portion is secured adjacent a delivery unit of the printing press and the upper portion is releasably attached to the lower portion through a swivel joint and catch coupling. An endless conveyor belt is trained about a pair of guide rollers and a tensioning roller on the upper portion for continuous movement imparted by the rotational force of a drive wheel mounted on the lower portion of the table. A guide plate extends substantially parallel and closely adjacent the conveyor path for guiding sheet materials during transfer. A wedge-shaped suction aperture in the guide plate is adapted for communication with a vacuum source, thereby creating a downwardly directed suction force for braking and guiding the sheet materials during transfer.

  • Patent number: 4624183
Abstract: An ink metering device for the fountain roller of a printing press including a plurality of ink slides in the ink fountain wherein each slide has a metering element of duct width movable by an adjusting screw which is connected to an adjusting pin and biased by a spring toward the fountain roller to produce a metering gap wherein the spring element is supported between a fixed part of the ink fountain and the metering element and a length-equalizing element is provided permitting transmission of an adjusting movement to the adjusting pin such that the lenth-equalizing action is effective only by overcoming the force of the spring element. In the preferred embodiment, the adjusting pin is rigid with the metering element and the other end is screwed into a length-equalizing coupling connected to a selective drive mechanism with the intermediate portion of the pin being supported for axial movement in a guide block.

  • Patent number: 4559874
Abstract: An ink metering system for letterpress and offset printing machines is provided in which the duct roller, the ink vibrator discs and the transfer roller have a low circumferential speed and wherein the ink is accelerated by suitable vibrator devices to higher speeds corresponding to the circumferential speed of the plate cylinder. The ink vibrator discs are controlled under defined conditions by various lever systems in order that the ink may be transferred controllably and in optimum manner without any empty gaps. The ink vibrator discs can also be readily removed and fitted for repair and cleaning purposes.

  • Patent number: 4393775
Abstract: An ink fountain including a frame defining a horizontal slot adjacent the fountain roller. Arranged side by side in the slot is a metering assembly in the form of a series of flat slides each having a cam assembly at its rear end for adjusting the position of the slide with respect to the fountain roller thereby to meter ink in predetermined thickness in respective zones. Each slide is formed of a body having secured thereto a rectangular tip portion formed of resilient plastic. The tip portion of each slide has embedded in it a blade of wear resistant spring metal, the blade being coextensive with the width of the slide and so oriented as to present a flat face to the fountain roller defining, with the fountain roller, a sharply acute cusp.

  • Patent number: 4149802
Abstract: A device for measuring ink film thickness in the inking system of a printing press which includes a pair of hollow transparent rollers, at least one of which is resilient so that when the rollers are in rolling engagement with one another and with an ink-carrying roller in the press, there is a longitudinally extending ribbon-like area of engagement between them through which an enclosed film of ink is fed in a thickness which varies in accordance with the thickness of the ink film in the press. A longitudinally extensive light projector in one of the rollers cooperates with a correspondingly dimensioned light collector in the other, the collector being coupled to a photocell having an output indicator. The projector and collector are both in the form of optical cross section transformers, the projector being coupled fiber-optically to an external light source. A filter assembly is interposed in the light path manually switchable for application, to the film, of light of complementary color.
