Abstract: A reader device is configured to connect a physical token to a host device. The reader device may be updated by a local or central administration device forwarding configuration commands in accordance with a standard that is used to communicate with the physical token. This is achieved by emulating a virtual token when no physical token is present, and addressing the memory of the reader device storing the configuration settings in the same manner as a memory of the physical token.
