Abstract: An apparatus and method for document format conversion. The apparatus includes a document parsing unit for parsing a fixed layout document to acquire path primitives of the document; a path grouping unit for dividing the path primitives into groups to generate path groups; a font file generating unit for acquiring path groups that are used to represent characters and generating font files corresponding to the path groups, wherein if there are two or more path groups representing the same character, only one font file is generated and associated with the multiple path groups representing the same character; a document generating unit for generating a converted document using all font files that have been generated. With the above, the problem of data redundancy in fixed layout documents is solved; further, the incorrect rending in reflowing processes may be solved to achieve better display effects.

The apparatus comprises: a parsing unit, for parsing the content of an original layout document to obtain text graphic unit data; an identification unit, for identifying text properties of each character of the text graphic unit data; a text node classification unit, for classifying characters of the text graphic unit data according to the text properties, and saving characters with the same text properties to the same text node along with the same text properties; a text content node classification unit, for, with respect to characters saved in each text node, saving characters on the same line or column. The method may comprise typesetting a flow document and extracting first logical structure information of a document entity from the typeset flow document. The method may also comprise mapping a layout element associated with the document entity to a framing box corresponding to the first logical structure information. In addition, the method may comprise converting the layout element mapped to the framing box into a description form of second logical structure information associated with a target document format.
