Publication number: 20240280318Abstract: Methods for drying cannabis in continuous throughput-type and batch-type microwave vacuum drying apparatus. One method uses a vacuum chamber having a plurality of adjacent drying zones. The cannabis is conveyed through each of the zones while exposing it to microwave radiation. Each of the drying zones has a microwave power level different from that of an adjacent drying zone, the microwave power levels of zones varying from each other in a non-linear arrangement from the first zone to the last zone. In a batch method, cannabis is loaded into a vacuum chamber, the pressure is reduced, and the cannabis is irradiated with microwave radiation at a first power level. The surface temperature of the cannabis is measured and when the temperature exceeds a specified temperature for a time period greater than a first time period, the power level is reduced to a lower power level for a second time period.
