  • Publication number: 20050165546
Abstract: A method of steering a vehicle along a predetermined, or real time path by using a steering control algorithm. The vehicle includes a navigation system and a navigation antenna. The navigation antenna is mounted on the vehicle at an optimum antenna position, whereas the steering control algorithm assumes a nominal antenna position at a predetermined reference point. The method comprises the following steps: (A) obtaining a set of positioning data of the vehicle by using the navigation system and by using the navigation antenna mounted at the optimum antenna position; (B) modifying the set of positioning data of the vehicle; (C) measuring a steering angle(s) of the front wheels of the vehicle relative to a predetermined reference direction(s); (D) calculating a correction(s) to the measured steering angle(s); and (E) performing a steering action by using the correction(s) to the measured steering angle(s) to move the vehicle along the predetermined, or real time path.

  • Patent number: 6870901
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed. The method includes one or more of the following: compiling statistical models of physical layers of a communications system; creating a priori distributions of cross-talk transfer functions; storing the models and the a priori distribution in a storage medium; and using the models and the a priori distributions to diagnose probable causes of events detected in said communications system.

  • Patent number: 6022483
Abstract: A system for controlling the pressure in a chamber with a computer controlled exhaust throttle valve. A characterization relationship describes the static properties of the valve geometry, valve actuation mechanism and gas flow properties. This characterization relationship can comprise a theoretical or empirical function which associates a sufficient number of valve positions with the corresponding pressure, and may be parameterized by other auxiliary variables such as inlet gas flow values, gas types and compositions. An inverse relationship between the current measurable variables of the process, such as pressure, inlet flows and other auxiliary parameters is defined. A linearization method uses the inverse relationship to modify the effect of the valve positioning on the corresponding value of pressure in such a way that the combined behavior of the process and the linearization method yields a linear relationship between a new control variable and the pressure.

  • Patent number: 4903528
Abstract: To determine measurements such as basis weight and caliper of a travelling sheet during production, the sheet is repeatedly traversed with a scanning sensor and, during each traverse, measurements are taken at a plurality of slice locations. Then, a series of reference locations are selected which are spaced apart in the machine direction along the sheet surface. Then, for selected slices, measurement values are estimated based upon actual measurements taken at locations on the selected slices which are not spaced in the machine direction at the same spacing as reference locations.

  • Patent number: 4680089
Abstract: A process is provided for controlling a thickness regulating member such as a slice lip coupled to slice rods. The process includes determining the desired configuration of the slice lip and determing the required slice rod movements based upon physical characteristics of the slice lip and the slice rods.

  • Patent number: 4421068
Abstract: A system and process is provided for controlling a steam generation and distribution system including a plurality of headers. Each of the headers is coupled to steam using devices such as steam turbines and steam supplying devices such as boilers. The process includes measuring the pressure at each header and when the pressure changes, identifying each path beginning at the particular header and terminating at a boiler, and determining the alteration of a boiler and any particular steam turbines required to restore the required pressure at the header while doing so at the least incremental cost.
