  • Patent number: 11891486
Abstract: The disclosure relates to sidechain functionalized organosiloxane compounds comprising polyalkyleneoxide (POA) and/or polyalkyleneoxide coupled zwitterionic moieties with various other modular side chains including reactive and or non-reactive groups. The present disclosure further also pertains to ice-phobic polymer formulations capable of curing on a substrate to form a surface that is ice-phobic, resistant to ice formation, and/or resistant to ice adhesion. The disclosed ice-phobic polymer formulations comprise one or more disclosed sidechain functionalized organosiloxane compound, one or more binder resin, and/or one or more lubricating liquid. The present disclosure further relates to articles comprising the disclosed ice-phobic polymer compositions, thereby providing articles having ice-phobic properties. This abstract is intended as a scanning tool for purposes of searching in the particular art and is not intended to be limiting of the present disclosure.

  • Publication number: 20210253969
Abstract: Lubricant compositions and methods of applying lubricant compositions are provided that overcome problems associated with over-lubrication and waste of lubricants in a variety of industrial settings. In various aspects, a lubricant composition is provided with one or more carriers, wherein the surface tensions of the lubricant and carrier are selected to provide precise lubrication of a surface with the lubricant effectively wetting the surface. In various aspects, a lubricant composition is provided with one or more carriers, wherein the boiling points of the lubricant and carrier are selected to provide precise lubrication with easy removal of the carrier and wetting of the lubricant on the surface. In various aspects, methods of applying a precise amount of lubricant to a surface are provided to avoid waste of lubricant in various industrial settings.

  • Publication number: 20190168258
Abstract: The present teachings relate to compositions and methods for creating a functionalized, roughened surface in a single application, which surface can be uniformly-textured and have strong chemical affmity to a selected lubricant. The compositions can include a solvent, nanoparticles having a narrow particle size distribution, a binder, and an additive. The textured surfaces of the present teachings can have an affinity for a lubricating liquid such that a smooth immobilized, stable liquid overlayer of the lubricating liquid can be present in, on, and over the functionalized, roughened surface thereby creating a robust slippery liquid-infused porous surface that is repellant.

  • Publication number: 20170088472
Abstract: The permeability of cementitious materials is reduced by chemically functionalizing the surface and infiltrating it with a lubricant. However, the development process was not trivial, where additional steps were required to optimize the cement types used (e.g. geopolymer and Portland cement). It was observed that after the complete modification, the wetting behavior of the cement against water changed from dynamic wetting to hydrophobic (water droplets with water CA>120°. Furthermore, compression testing showed that there was negligible difference in the bulk mechanical properties, more specifically the ultimate strength and the Young's modulus. The result is cementitious materials with omniphobicity and damage-tolerant resistance to permeable fluids.
