  • Patent number: 11912199
Abstract: A vehicular trailer hitching assist system includes a camera disposed at a rear portion of a vehicle and viewing at least rearward of the vehicle. During a reversing maneuver of the vehicle toward a trailer that is spaced from the vehicle at a distance from the vehicle, the camera views at least a portion of a front profile of the trailer. An electronic control unit (ECU) includes an image processor operable to process image data captured by the camera. The vehicular trailer hitching assist system, via image processing at the ECU of image data captured by the camera during the reversing maneuver of the vehicle toward the trailer, determines a plurality of landmarks corresponding to the front profile of the trailer. Based at least in part on the determined plurality of landmarks, the vehicular trailer hitching assist system determines location of a trailer coupler of the trailer.

  • Patent number: 11662196
Abstract: A vehicular trailer assist system includes a control that includes an image processor for processing image data captured by the camera representative of at least a portion of a trailer hitched to the vehicle. The control determines whether the trailer has been previously hitched to the vehicle. Responsive to the trailer not being previously hitched, the control operates in a trailer initial calibration mode. Responsive to the control recognizing the trailer, the control operates in a recognized trailer calibration mode. The control obtains calibration data unique to the hitched trailer. The control, responsive to obtaining the calibration data, processes image data captured by the camera using the calibration data to locate the current position of the trailer relative to the vehicle. The control, responsive to locating the current position of the trailer relative to the vehicle, determines a trailer angle based on the located current position.

  • Patent number: 11613208
Abstract: A trailering assist system for a vehicle includes a camera disposed at a rear portion of a vehicle and having a field of view rearward of the vehicle, the field of view encompassing at least a portion of a trailer rearward of the vehicle. The camera captures image data, which is representative of at least a front profile of the trailer, which includes a trailer coupler of the trailer. An ECU includes an image processor that processes image data captured by the camera. The ECU, responsive to image processing of captured image data, determines a location of the front profile of the trailer relative to the vehicle. Responsive to determining the location of the front profile, the ECU determines a plurality of outline landmarks that represent a shape of the front profile of the trailer. Based on the determined outline landmarks, the ECU determines a location of the trailer coupler.

  • Publication number: 20220215670
Abstract: A vehicular trailer assist system includes a rearward viewing camera disposed at a vehicle that views a trailer hitched at a fifth wheel hitch at a bed of the vehicle. With the trailer hitched to the fifth wheel hitch at the bed of the vehicle, the vehicular trailer assist system, via processing fisheye-view frames of image data captured by the camera, transforms fisheye-view frames of image data captured by the rearward viewing camera into bird's-eye view frames of image data. The vehicular trailer assist system determines a region of interest (ROI) in a transformed bird's-eye view frames of image data that includes a region where the fifth wheel hitch is present. The vehicular trailer assist system, via a Hough transform that transforms the determined ROI from a Cartesian coordinate system to a polar coordinate system, determines a trailer angle of the trailer relative to the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20220212599
Abstract: A vehicular trailer assist system includes a rearward viewing camera viewing a trailer hitched at a fifth wheel hitch at a bed of the vehicle. With the trailer hitched to the vehicle, the vehicular trailer assist system transforms fisheye-view frames of image data captured by the rearward viewing camera into bird's-eye view frames of image data. The vehicular trailer assist system determines the fifth wheel hitch within a transformed bird's-eye view frame of image data. The vehicular trailer assist system warps the transformed bird's-eye view frame of image data, which includes (i) an X-axis that indicates change in a trailer angle of the trailer relative to the vehicle and (ii) a Y-axis that indicates distance from the fifth wheel hitch. The vehicular trailer assist system, using the X-axis of the warped transformed bird's-eye view frame of image data, determines the trailer angle of the trailer relative to the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 11377029
Abstract: A vehicular trailer assist system includes a camera disposed at a rear portion of a vehicle, a plurality of sensors, and an electronic control unit (ECU) having a processor for processing image data captured by the camera and sensor data captured by the plurality of sensors. The ECU, responsive to processing of image data captured by the camera, determines a trailer angle of the trailer relative to the vehicle. The ECU, responsive to processing of sensor data captured by the plurality of sensors, predicts a yaw rate of the vehicle and a trailer angle of the trailer relative to the vehicle at a future time. The ECU, responsive to predicting the yaw rate, determines a corrected vehicle yaw rate based on processing of captured image data and captured sensor data, and determines a corrected trailer angle, and determines a vehicle heading and position and a trailer heading and position.
