  • Patent number: 5551644
Abstract: A method of winding a cable on a rotating reel by way of a guide at an angle of lag which is changed at both reel flanges through a position parallel with the flange to an opposite angle of lag when a cable turn comes into contact with the reel flange. To wind the cable turns more closely together at the reel flanges, the angle of lag is changed into the position parallel with the reel flange before the cable turn comes into contact with the reel flange. A device for applying the method in a cable winding machine comprises detecting devices supposed by the guide for detecting each reel flange and for changing the angle of lag of the cable to its parallel position before reversing devices detect the reel flange and reverse the direction of displacement of the guide with respect to the reel.

  • Patent number: 5364043
Abstract: Apparatus in a coil winding machine for winding a cable on a reel provided with flanges, comprises a support stand for the reel and a guide for supplying the cable to the reel, a distribution machinery for displacing the support stand and the guide in relation to each other, detectors for detecting the reel flanges and for reversing the distribution machinery, when a cable mm contacts a reel flange, and a measuring device for detecting the thickness of the cable and controlling the distribution machinery in accordance with the thickness measurement of the measuring device. In order to easily take into account the thickness variations of the cable, the detectors are arranged to be mechanically displaced each by a measuring device in accordance with the thickness measurement of the measuring device.

  • Patent number: 5320295
Abstract: A carriage for displacing a cylindrical body into a winding machine, comprising two support elements (9) defining therebetween a space for receiving the body (2) and being adjustable with respect to each other in a transverse direction of the elements; fixed support plates (10) attached to the support elements for supporting the body; and a machinery for lifting and lowering the support plates. To measure the size of the body and to be able to adjust the winding machine in advance, the carriage comprises sensors (15, 18) for measuring the width and diameter of the body while the body is supported by the support plates; and a transmitter (24) for transmitting the measuring results to the winding machine.

  • Patent number: 5288031
Abstract: An arrangement for winding and unwinding a cable on and from a drum, respectively, in an automatic winding machine having two gripping pins connected to a device for displacing the pins vertically between a fixed upper winding position and a lower drum gripping position, and a drive wheel operated by a pressure device and connected to an adjusting device for displacing the wheel to an operating position against the drum flange.

  • Patent number: 5052877
Abstract: A carriage for the transportation of a cable reel, comprising two parallel support elements (2, 3) which form a space between them for a reel (6) and are displaceable with respect to each other in the transverse direction (B) of the support elements, and reel supports (10) mounted on the support elements for the reel. In order to transport the reels with their central axes (A) transversely to the driving direction of the carriage so that the axes of the reels are positioned, irrespective of the size of the reels, at a constant distance from a fixed reference point (12) in the carriage, the support elements are provided with vertically displaceable carrier wheels (7) and with displacing wheels (9), the axes (C) of which extend in the longitudinal direction of the support elements. When the support elements are lowered, the displacing wheels contact the underlying surface (11) only after the reel has made contact with the surface and the reel supports have released the reel.

  • Patent number: 4724654
Abstract: A plunger (4) for joining an inner workpiece (7) to an outer tubular workpiece (2) is disclosed. The plunger includes an expansion element (9) which engages the inner workpiece and crimps it to the outer workpiece. The expansion element (9) is an annular cup-shaped resilient element which is mounted on a part (21) which is movable relative to a body (8) and to a bottom plate (16). The body (8) and its bottom plate (16) are provided with guide surfaces which are spaced apart to provide a space through which the expansion element may pass upon movement of member 21. The guide surfaces constrain the resilient expansion element to move into pressure applying engagement with the inner workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4609160
Abstract: A winding machine device for drawing a string-shaped article, such as an electric cable, a rope, a wire or the like, to a drum onto which said string-shaped article is to be wound, said drum being carried by mandrels which are insertable into center holes of a hub of the drum, at least one of the side walls of the drum being provided with an aperture to allow an inner end of the string-shaped article to extend from inside the drum to the outside of said side wall thereof. According to the invention a winding wheel is rigidly affixed to and coaxial with a machine driven one of said mandrels, a tracking rope or the like, one end of which is attachable to said end of said string-shaped article, being arranged to extend through said aperture in said drum wall and to be wound onto said winding wheel to draw said article to the drum and the leading end thereof through the aperture and a selected distance outside the side wall.
