  • Patent number: 5778728
Abstract: A gear shifting device for change-speed gearboxes having a forward gear and a reverse gear in a common shift plane, including a housing, a shifter rod slidably supported within the housing, a shifter fork having a bridge axially slidable on the shifter rod, and a shifter arm having a selector finger selectively engageable with the shifter fork. The shifter arm moves in a first direction from a neutral position to select the forward gear and in a substantially opposite second direction from the neutral position to select the reverse gear. A first pin and cam connection is provided between the shifter arm and reverse gear so that movement of the selector finger in the first direction of the shift plane from the neutral position engages forward gear while reverse gear is not affected by movement in the first direction.

  • Patent number: 5247848
Abstract: A gear shift lever bearing for automotive transmissions includes a ball socket formed of tough elastic material located in a bearing housing having multiple slots that define circular ball socket sectors. A ball, received in the ball socket, includes laterally guided tabs received in grooves formed in the socket. The bearing housing retains the ball socket in position by locking rings and a retaining ring. A shoulder of the ball socket includes multiple webs located in the slots and radial and axial supports that resiliently bear upon the cylindrical bore and the retaining ring.

  • Patent number: 5105676
Abstract: A device for holding the position of the gear shift lever of a manual transmission includes a first packing member located on the dome of the mounting for the gear shift lever and having a radial slot located between resilient holding tongues. A second packing member, engaged with the first packing, includes a radial slot brought into and out of alignment with the slot of the first packing member by rotation through a predetermined angular range.

  • Patent number: 5060538
Abstract: A gear shift mechanism for a manual transmission includes a shaft axially movable for selecting shift planes and rotatable for engaging the gears defining the shift planes. The shaft is held in a reference shift plane by two helical springs. A finger, fixed to the shaft, carries a cam defining detent surfaces engaged by a spring-loaded catch stud. Shift fork rods support shift forks which have arms formed with grooves extending toward a locking plate that is moved axially along the shaft by the shift finger. The locking plate blocks engagement grooves of the unselected shift forks.

  • Patent number: 4738153
Abstract: A gearshift lock for the shift mechanism of a manually operated multiple speed ratio transmission includes a selector shaft rotatable by a gearshift lever under the control of the vehicle operator, a selector finger movable within slots formed in a base plate, the slots being defined by the various positions of the gearshift lever that correspond to speed ratios of the transmission. A spring-loaded rotatable locking cam mounted on the gate plate cooperates with a finger carried on the selector shafts to prevent backward shifting movement from a forward gear position into the reverse gear position and to guide the selector finger into the adjacent gearshift slot. A base plate pivots on a pin fixed to the gate plate against the force of a legged spring to produce a sensible indication to the vehicle operator when greater force is required to move the gearshift lever.

  • Patent number: 4543845
Abstract: A shifting mechanism for a change-speed gear has a gear-selector shaft that includes a first shift finger and a first locking wheel cooperating therewith and fixed axially in the gear housing for moving two shift forks, and a second shift finger and a second locking wheel cooperating therewith and fixed axially in a gear box extension for moving a third shift fork located in the gear box extension. The axial fixing of the second locking wheel is arranged so that it is guided through a groove on a projection secured to a cover, which is adjustably fixed in the axial direction on the gear box extension by way of elongated holes and screws.

  • Patent number: 4373618
Abstract: A brake device actuated by motion of the shift lever during selection of the reverse gear operating condition has a check plate pivotably mounted on the gearbox housing and actuated by a selector finger of the shift lever. The check plate engages one arm of a lever during the reverse gear selection motion and causes the lever to pivot thereby causing a second arm of the lever to pivot a baffle plate. The over-running shaft has a rotor fixedly mounted thereon which causes an oil stream to flow as the shaft turns. The baffle plate is made to pivot into an obstructing position within the oil stream whereby the over-running shaft is braked. A second embodiment forms the baffle so that it obstructs the oil stream and deflects it onto the rotor thereby increasing the braking effect on the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4332312
Abstract: A reverse idler gear lever pivots to move a reverse gear into engagement with an after-running gearwheel mounted on a layshaft. A connecting arm is pinned to the idler lever and defines a slot within which a pin mounted on a brake lever moves. The pin engages a bowspring within the slot and transmits a force to the brake lever until the bowspring is cleared by the pin. The spring force operates to pivot the brake lever and to bring a brake surface into abutting contact with the after-running gearwheel. Alternatively, a spring force is developed on a cam surface as the brake lever moves relative to the connecting arm.
