  • Patent number: 7274839
Abstract: In a device for measuring physical parameters, such as temperature, light from a light source is coupled through one or more optical wavelengths into and out of a microparticle forming an “optical resonator”. To optically and mechanically couple the resonator to the optical waveguide in the most favorable manner, the resonator is disposed within a recess in the optical waveguide, is retained there in a mechanical manner, and is optically coupled to the optical waveguide. The optical waveguide can be configured as a hollow guide. Alternatively, a cuneiform measuring tip is provided, comprising two converging webs, between which the resonator is arranged. The webs are made of light-conducting material while being coupled to at least one light-conducting fiber connected to the light source.

  • Publication number: 20030118075
Abstract: The invention relates to a fiber-optic temperature sensor which is provided with a preferably spherical microparticle with a diameter in the range of from 5 to 100 micrometers as the optical resonator. Said microparticle is linked with optical waveguides for coupling light in or out. A laser diode (1) incites optical resonances in the microparticle, the wavelengths of these resonances depending on the diameter of the microparticle. Due to the thermal expansion of the microparticle, said diameter in turn depends on the temperature. The temperature sensor is calibrated so that the resonance wavelengths can be correlated with corresponding temperature values.

  • Patent number: 4380486
Abstract: A machine installation for the manufacture of a thick-walled insulating pipe of elastic, laminatable foamed synthetic resin sheet material, includes an apparatus for effecting the lamination of a foamed synthetic resin sheet material to form a multilayer insulating pipe having a length corresponding to the sheet width of the sheet of foam material and a finishing unit. The laminating apparatus has an expandable and rotatable mandrel equipped with a pneumatic expanding means and an infinitely variable drive mechanisms for rotating the mandrel to wrap the sheet material thereon, and a pressure roller which can be urged against the mandrel. The roller is movable pneumatically by a telescopic holder, and the mandrel is associated with a pivotably mounted burner and a cutter.
