  • Patent number: 5613393
Abstract: A process for extrusion of a metal billet placed in a container delimiting a housing for the billet. One end of the container is closed by a closing bottom and the other end by a dummy block. Before extrusion, the billet is pre-compressed in order to apply it against the inner face of the housing. At the start of the pre-compression, a limited play is maintained between the closing bottom and the corresponding end of the container, preventing the container from approaching the closing bottom during pre-compression so as to allow evacuation of air contained between the billet and the inner housing face during expansion of the billet.

  • Patent number: 4989437
Abstract: A method and apparatus for extruding metal using the reverse method in which a billet placed in the bore of a container is compressed between a base and an extruding block. Billets are extruded in the raw state without prior removal of the outer layer, leaving a play sufficient to form a sleeve of a thickness at least equal to that of the outer layer to be removed, between the periphery of the block and the inner face of the bore, along the inner face. The bore is then scraped, using a scraping block whose periphery is separated from the inner face of the bore by a play which is less than the thickness of the sleeve but sufficient for the sleeve to be removed over a part only of its thickness.

  • Patent number: 4825677
Abstract: Apparatus for the extrusion of metal in the form of billets (4) cut to order from bars (44, 45) previously heated in a furnace (31), comprising an extrusion press (1) associated with a member for transferring each billet (4) to be extruded, parallel to itself, from a stand-by position (A), after cutting, to a loading position (C) in the axis of the press (1). For transfer of the billets the apparatus has a single member (2) moveable transversely to the extrusion axis and equipped with a gripper (5) of variable width, comprising at least two telescopic jaws associated with a device (6) for adjusting the extended lengths of the telescopic parts, such that each jaw covers a width substantially equal to the length of the billet.

  • Patent number: 4677838
Abstract: Installation for preparing metal billets for extrusion, comprising a furnace (1) heating a metal bloom (4), having an elongate receptacle (10), means of heating the bloom and means (3) of pushing the bloom out of the receptacle along a longitudinal axis of movement, and a shear (2) cutting the bloom into billets of a length suitable for extrusion, comprising a pair of rear jaws (5) mounted in a fixed frame (21) and at least one front jaw (65) mounted so as to slide, transversely relative to the axis of movement of the bloom, along the rear jaws (5) and on the opposite site to the furnace (1) and associated with means (66) of controlling, as a result of sliding, the shearing of a specific length of the bloom (4).
