  • Patent number: 10296977
Abstract: A computer-implemented method provides information about a financed, leased or insured vehicle having an onboard wireless-enabled usage reporting device for computing a risk associated with a financing, leasing or insurance obligation. The method entails receiving data from a remote computer to set parameters to be used by the device installed in the vehicle to measure real-time vehicle usage, computing on the device a confidence score based on the parameters and storing the confidence score in the device, the confidence score being indicative of a risk associated with the financing, leasing or insurance obligation of the vehicle, transferring the confidence score or information relating to the confidence score from the device to the remote computer in response to a command from the remote computer or automatically based on a predefined criterion, and displaying the confidence score to indicate the risk associated with the financing, leasing or insurance obligation.

  • Patent number: 8988249
Abstract: A wireless monitoring system comprises a remote asset about which data is to be collected and a wireless data-transfer device connected to the remote asset. The wireless device includes a radiofrequency transceiver and a chip having a memory for storing a plurality of subscriber identifiers corresponding to different wireless networks and for further storing logic that constitutes network selection rules for selecting one of the wireless networks to use for transmission of the data. In a GSM/UMTS implementation of this technology, the subscriber identifier is the IMSI and the chip is a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) chip or card. By using multiple IMSI's, the wireless data-transfer device connected to the remote asset may switch seamlessly between wireless networks. A new IMSI (for a new network) may be provisioned over the air to enable the device to communicate over a new network for which it did not previously have an IMSI.

  • Patent number: 8510732
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for managing remote applications running on devices that acquire, process and store data locally in order to integrate said data with heterogeneous enterprise information systems and business processes. The system allows for remotely deploying, running, monitoring and updating of applications embedded within devices. The applications acquire, store and process data about assets that is eventually sent to a centralized data processing infrastructure. The system comprises an information integration framework that integrates the processed data with data that is extracted from heterogeneous data sources, in real-time, in order to create synthesized information.

  • Patent number: 5938288
Abstract: An automatic control of the operation of a machine used for excavating drifts, tunnels, stopes, caverns or the like of a predetermined profile having a rotatable head (10) and cutting arms (14, 16) mounted on the head for rotation therewith, extending in the direction of excavation with at least one cutting arm (14, 16) being radially pivotable. The angular position (.phi.) of the head (10) is continuously measured and the output signals from these measurements are processed by the computer (44) which controls the angular positions of the head and of the arms according to a predetermined profile code or program stored in the computer memory for cutting the predetermined profile. Additional sensors (54,56) may be provided to control other parameters such as RPM of the rotating head, the force exerted on the arms, the positioning of the machine and the like.

  • Patent number: 5134471
Abstract: A borehole camera monitoring system comprises a camera head assembly adapted to be lowered into a borehole by means of a cable and control unit located above ground for generating a control signal for the operation of the camera. The camera head assembly comprises a fixed portion and a rotary portion containing the camera and associated equipment for examining the wall of the borehole. The fixed portion of the camera head assembly comprises a micro-controller for controlling the operation of the camera, a position encoder for detecting the angular rotation of the camera with respect to the fixed portion of the camera head assembly and a communication interface including means for multiplexing the video signal generated by the camera with an information signal generated by the micro-controller for transmission over the cable and means for extracting the control signal generated by the computer and transmitted over the cable.
