  • Patent number: 5811724
Abstract: A pyrotechnic composition that emits essentially only infrared radiation upon combustion contains at least one peroxide component, an oxidizer that is more energetic than the peroxide component, a coolant, a binder and silicon. In one embodiment, the peroxide component is a mixture of strontium peroxide and barium peroxide, the oxidizer more energetic than the peroxide component is barium nitrate, the coolant is magnesium carbonate, the binder is calcium resonate and the silicon has a minimum purity of 99.9%. The pyrotechnic composition is useful as the combustible component of an infrared tracer.

  • Patent number: 5538567
Abstract: There is provided a gas generating propellant mix consisting essentially of guanidine nitrate, an oxidizer selected from the group consisting of potassium perchlorate and ammonium perchlorate, a flow enhancer and a binder. When ignited, the propellant mix generates nitrogen, carbon dioxide and steam at an elevated temperature, typically in excess of 800.degree. C. The propellant mix is particularly useful in augmented gas generators to augment the evolution of oxygen from a secondary source such as potassium chlorate. The propellant mix is free of highly toxic compounds and has particular application in automotive airbags.

  • Patent number: 5516378
Abstract: An explosive charge is disclosed for use as ammunition in a casing. The charge is comprised of a particulate propellant which is embedded in a solidified matrix prepared from an energetic liquid composition. The latter comprises a liquid, energetic plasticizer, a polyol and an organic polyisocyanate.
