  • Patent number: 10289833
Abstract: A method and system for authenticating an Internet user identity by cross-referencing and comparing at least two independent sources of information. A first geographical location of a computer signature of an internet user is identified, and the geographical location of a communication voice device of said internet user is identified to determine a second location. The first and second locations are compared for geographical proximity to confirm the identity of the internet user. Based upon geographical proximity of said locations, a score may be assigned to the internet user, and access to a website or authorization to carry out a transaction may be allowed or limited based upon said score. Alternatively, additional authentication information can be required or access can be terminated.

  • Publication number: 20180248892
Abstract: The invention provides a means of continuous two-factor authentication, wherein location information is collected by a client mobile device and transmitted to an authentication platform at the beginning of a communication session. The location information is correlated with a unique identifier of the communication session, derived from server-generated components such as destination IP address, destination TCP port, tty terminal device, and the like. If the mobile device changes location by more than a predetermined amount, the correlation is broken, and re-authentication by the user is required in order to continue the session.

  • Publication number: 20180039975
Abstract: The invention provides a method for verifying the identity of an internet user, or for detecting the misuse of an identity, during an on-line transaction. The method involves comparing the geographic location of the transaction to the geographic location of the user's cell phone or other mobile device, and taking a geographically close location relationship between the two as a positive indication of identity. Various additional factors are taken into account so as to reduce the incidence of false negatives, and to improve the reliability of positive identifications.

  • Patent number: 9727867
Abstract: The invention provides methods for determining whether a transaction has taken place in geographic proximity to a wireless device. Upon receiving a notification to authenticate the use of an identity at a transaction location, where the identity is associated with a wireless terminal, the method determines an approximate location of the wireless terminal based on cached position information, GPS location, cellular geo-location, and/or Wi-Fi geolocation, and determines whether one or more of these is in geographic proximity to the location of the transaction.

  • Patent number: 9391985
Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for accomplishing two-factor authentication for internet transactions, wherein the user of the device through which the transaction is negotiated needs to give only a single yes/no verification to the system. In some embodiments, the second factor authentication is automated without any action on the part of the user. The method calls on the user's wireless voice device for the detection of environmental wireless signals (“Short Distance Wireless Information” or “SDWI”), and uses these signals collectively as a “fingerprint” that uniquely identifies the wireless signals near the wireless voice device. The system stores these SDWI fingerprints, and later uses the stored information to establish whether or not the user's wireless voice device is near a previously-recognized SDWI.

  • Patent number: 8770477
Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for determining the geographical location of an Internet router, or of an IP address associated with the router. The method obtains the geographical location of a wireless communication device, while it is in communication with a web site via a router, and assigns that location to the router.

  • Publication number: 20120244885
Abstract: The invention provides a method for detection of misuse of an identity during an electronic transaction. In a first embodiment, the method comprises the steps of: receiving a notification to authenticate the use of an identity at a first location, wherein the identity is associated with a first wireless terminal; determining an approximate location of the first wireless terminal based on cached position information, the approximate location of the first wireless terminal being a second location; determining whether the first and second locations match in geographical proximity; and generating an alert if the first and second locations do not match in geographical proximity. In a second embodiment, an approximate location of the first wireless terminal is determined based on cached position information stored in a GPS position database. In a third embodiment, the approximate location of the first wireless terminal is automatically determined prior to the initiation of a transaction.
