Remote units in the wireless DCS include an adaptive TDD communications synchronization circuit that includes a power detection circuit configured to detect TDD communications signals distinguished from noise. The power detection circuit is configured to adaptively set a noise threshold floor level for TDD downlink communications link by detecting the noise level on the TDD downlink communications link that includes a TDD uplink communication period. The adaptive TDD communications synchronization circuit can also include a symbol edge detection circuit configured to generate an edge trigger signal indicating the symbol edges of TDD downlink communication signals.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure relate to downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) communication path switching in a time-division duplex (TDD) distributed antenna system (DAS). In this regard, a communications control circuit is provided. The communications control circuit is configured to synchronize to DL periods and UL periods of TDD communication signal to switch a TDD communication signal between a DL communication path and a UL communication path in a DAS accordingly. The communication control circuit is configured to detect the DL periods and/or the UL periods in the TDD communication signal by sensing a power increase associated with the TDD communication signal in the DL communication path. In this manner, the TDD communication signals can be synchronously directed to the DL communication path and UL communication path without destructing and/or decoding the TDD communication signals.

    Abstract: Detecting uplink/downlink time-division duplexed (TDD) frame configurations in TDD communications signals to synchronize uplink communications from TDD communications units. In one example, embodiments disclosed herein involve detecting uplink/downlink time-division duplexed (TDD) frame configurations employed in downlink TDD communications signals transmitted from a TDD base station. The TDD base station may be configured to provide TDD communications according to a TDD frame to a distributed antenna system. The detected uplink/downlink TDD frame configuration of the downlink TDD communications signals can be used to determine time periods in the TDD frame when downlink communications transmissions are intended and uplink communications transmissions are intended.
