  • Publication number: 20060254902
Abstract: A safety system for a coking facility where there is a coke drum and a drill assembly. When the coke accumulates in the drum, a drill head of the drill assembly is lowered into the coke drum to emit high pressure water jets to remove the coke from the coke drum. There is a enclosing structure with an access door which is fixedly mounted at a location above an upper opening of the coke drum, so that when the drill head is moved out of the coke drum and there is an accidental jet water discharge, it will be redirected at a location within the enclosing structure. Interlock systems are provided.

  • Patent number: 6206059
Abstract: An automated low clearance skirt assembly lifting device adapted for raising and lowering a circular or multifaceted skirt to match the opening of pressure vessels such as coking drums and a method for uniform remote operation of the assembly. The low clearance skirt lifting assembly includes a reinforcement of the upper skirt attached to one or more lifting cylinders mounted within a telescoping enclosure, so that the skirt assembly may be uniformly extended and retraced without binding or side load transfer to the hydraulically or pneumatically actuated device. Following the unheading of the flange on the coke drum, the skirt is remotely extended to align with the flange hereby bridging the gap between the chute and the drum prior to commencement of the drilling cycle and lowered once all the coke has been extracted from the drum.

  • Patent number: 5380502
Abstract: A spring-biased system for suspending a reactor tube in a reactor (e.g. a hydrogen reforming furnace) which allows the tension in each reactor tube to be easily monitored while the reactor is in operation. The suspension system includes high precision springs, the compression of which is adjusted to pre-tension a respective reactor tube so that abnormal expansion of that tube during heat-up will be readily apparent from any change in length (i.e. compression) of the springs.

  • Patent number: 5022799
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for alignment and mounting in position of a drill stem provided at one end with a cutting tool for use in removing coke from a coke drum. The drill stem is provided in the vicinity of the cutting tool with a drill stem guide carried on a slidably mounted plate. A flange on the drill stem is provided to prevent movement of the plate below a particular point. In a preferred embodiment, automatic clamping means are provided to attach the plate to an end flange on the coke drum when the drill stem guide has been lowered into the coke drum a sufficient distance so that the flange on the drill stem is disengaged from direct or indirect contact with the plate and/or connecting elements of the clamping means provided on an upper surface of the plate.
