  • Patent number: 7727591
Abstract: A load comprising one or more porous substrates (10) for densification is heated in an oven into which a reaction gas containing at least one carbon-precursor hydrocarbon is admitted, the effluent gas being extracted from the oven via an extraction pipe (26) connected to an outlet from the oven. The content in the effluent gas of at least one compound selected from allene, propine, and benzene is measured, and as a function of the measured content, the process is controlled by adjusting at least one parameter selected from the rate at which the reaction gas is admitted into the oven, the rate at least one component of the reaction gas is admitted into the oven, the transit time of the gas through the oven, the temperature to which the substrate(s) is/are heated, and the pressure that exists inside the oven. The at least one parameter is adjusted in such a manner as to maintain the measured content at a value which is substantially constant.

  • Patent number: 5268525
Abstract: The invention relates to the conversion of saturated hydrocarbons.According to the invention a first gas containing chlorine and a second gas containing hydrogen are introduced into a chamber (3) so as to mix them. At the exit (4) of this chamber (3) the mixture of chlorine and hydrogen is ignited and the products originating from this flame are then mixed in a chamber (7) with a third gas containing the hydrocarbons to be converted, with a mean weight content of hydrogen element of at least 18%. The effluents from the chamber (7) are collected, quenched and fractionated. The hydrochloric acid is reformed into chlorine which is recycled in the first gas, the hydrogen is recycled in the second gas, and the alkanes in the third gas. The unsaturated hydrocarbons are recovered. The invention applies in particular to the conversion of natural gases into unsaturated hydrocarbons, such as ethylene.

  • Patent number: 4952743
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and to an apparatus for the conversion of hydrocarbons. According to the invention, at least one first gas containing at least 20% oxygen by volume and a type of hydrocarbon are first of all circulated in separate streams which are parallel to each other, without their being mixed, according to a spatial distribution such that the first gas is surrounded by the hydrocarbon; these substances are introduced into a mixing/reaction chamber, at a first given circulation level, and while the substances are then allowed to mix, the oxygen and the hydrocarbon are ignited so as to give rise to the conversion reaction and then, at a second given circulation level situated downstream of the first, a quenching of the resultant mixture is performed in a chamber; whereupon, the resultant quenched conversion products are recovered. The invention applies particularly to the manufacture of conversion products such as acetylene and ethylene.
