  • Patent number: 6824624
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for oxygen cutting pieces of steel, in which a cutter member (5) is positioned above a top face of the piece to be cut, and trimmer and spray members (10, 11) are positioned beneath the piece to be cut, said members being carried by a support blade which passes through the cut slot. According to the invention, at least one pressurized fluid (22) is projected directly into the cut slot (1.3) and into the portion thereof that lies between the cutting front and the blade-shaped support of the cutter and spray members, said jet forming a barrier protecting said blade-shaped support against particle projections during forward advance of the support along the cut slot (1.3). This eliminates the risk of forward advance of the blade-shaped support in the cut slot encountering any obstacles, thereby making it possible to implement cutting speeds that are very high.

  • Patent number: 6787731
Abstract: The invention relates to apparatus for oxygen cutting pieces of steel. The cutter and trimmer members (5, 10) are positioned in such a manner that the cutting jet (6) is applied to the top face (1.1) of the piece (1) in a substantially vertical direction, while the trimming jet (12) is applied to the bottom face (1.2) of said piece in an oblique direction that remains pointed towards the outlet point (14) of the cutting jet (6), simultaneous cutting and trimming being performed by moving the cutter and trimmer members (5, 10) horizontally in synchronous manner. A sprayer member (11) is also provided for spraying fluid during the cutting process towards molten particles in order to reduce fume emissions.

  • Patent number: 6783605
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for oxygen-cutting thick pieces of steel at high speed. In accordance with the invention an oxygen-cutting torch (30) held at a predetermined height above the piece (1) to be cut and a slot torch (20) comprising at least one blade nozzle (25) that travels inside the cut slot (1.3) are moved synchronously. The blade nozzle (25) emits at least one jet of heating and/or oxygen-cutting fluids through its leading edge to strike the heating edge of the slot where it combines with the jet of oxygen-cutting fluids emitted by the oxygen-cutting torch (30) to form a leading edge (1.4) of the slot having a profile in the form of a broken line.

  • Patent number: 6334906
Abstract: The invention provides a method and apparatus for oxygen cutting continuously cast billets, in which a cutting member (8) and a trimming member (9) are positioned relative to the billet to be cut (1) by taking a reference directly on the billet (1) by means of a moving clamp (7), after which the cutting member (8) and the trimming member (9) are lowered parallel to the side faces of the billet so as to cut the billet progressively downwards by attacking one of its side faces horizontally, while simultaneously trimming the cutting bead that forms on the other side face by attacking said other side face continuously in a downward direction.

  • Patent number: 6261512
Abstract: The oxy-cutting torch comprises a support element (10) made from an undeformable block of stainless steel, and a heater element (20) permanently fixed against a bottom face (19) of the support element (10), which heater element is made from a solid block of copper in which passages are formed for gases and cooling fluid, which passages communicate directly with corresponding pipes of the support element (10). At least one nozzle (30) is positioned with precision in two bores (41, 32) in axial alignment provided respectively in the support element (10) and in the heater element (20), the nozzle being connected to a cutting oxygen feed pipe (14.6). A holder element (40) is preferably used to improve the precision with which the nozzle (30) is positioned.

  • Patent number: 4535701
Abstract: The device comprises a body (1) for placing on a rail (R) for the purpose of receiving a wheel of a machine to be slowed down and stopped and forming an abutment for the wheel, and an arrangement for connecting the device to the rail. The connecting arrangement comprises a plate (7) carrying elastically yieldable claws (10 and 11) which are maintained spread apart in their position of rest. The plate (7) is adapted to be applied against the rail (R) and is pivotally connected to an arrangement (21) for moving the claws (10 and 11) towards each other for the purpose of closing them around the head of the rail. The arrangement (21) is connected to the body (1) of the device.
