  • Publication number: 20220120964
Abstract: A method and a system for providing a low absorption Bragg grating along a grating region of an optical fiber are presented. The Bragg grating is written along the grating region by multiphoton absorption of ultrafast light pulses impinged on this grating region through a polymer coating of the optical fiber. The Bragg grating is then photobleached by propagating a photobleaching light beam along the optical fiber. The photobleaching light beam has optical parameters selected to reduce defects in the grating region induced by the writing of the Bragg grating in a substantially non-thermal regime.

  • Patent number: 11207456
Abstract: A catheter device and method for treating an artery with thrombus, the catheter comprising an inflatable member. A carrier catheter has a proximal end and a distal end adapted to be inserted percutaneously into an artery, the carrier catheter having a tubular body adjacent to a rear end of the inflatable member. An inflating tube passes through the tubular body and having an open front end in fluid communication with the inflatable member to inflate same. An infusion tube is adapted to infuse pharmacologic agents, the infusion tube passing through the tubular body and having an open front end extending beyond the inflatable member. An aspiration tube is adapted to aspire the thrombus, the aspiration tube passing through the tubular body and having an open front end between the carrier catheter and the inflatable member.

  • Patent number: 10422506
Abstract: A pumped fluorescent light source includes a parabolic mirror that is positioned to focus pumping light from one or more pump sources on a fluorescent body. The resulting assembly provides for heat collection from a back surface of the light source for both the fluorescent body and the pumping sources in a compact package that may be hermetically sealed. The parabolic mirror has reflective surfaces disposed outside of a collection area of an output beam of the light sources, so that the collection area is not obstructed by the parabolic mirror. The light source also includes a collecting lens for collecting the light emitted by the body. The parabolic mirror focuses the stimulus light on the fluorescent body to stimulate emission. An additional parabolic mirror may be included behind the fluorescent body to focus the fluorescent emissions that do not directly enter the collection area at a point of collection.

  • Patent number: 9933605
Abstract: A high-radiance broadband incoherent light source is provided by pumping a body formed from a doped material, such as a Ce:YAG crystal with one or more laser diodes. The laser diodes emit at a stimulus wavelength, which may be an absorption wavelength of the body, and the body fluoresces to emit broadband light in a wide emission band. The body is either disposed in, or forms a light-concentrating cavity, e.g., reflective surfaces, which may be dichroic surfaces, can be formed on or attached to the sides of the body to concentrate the emitted light. The light is captured by a light collector that is coupled to an output face of the body to produce a broadband illumination beam. One or more of the reflective surfaces forming the light-concentrating cavity may form a heat sink.

  • Patent number: 7092414
Abstract: There is described a method of characterizing a short laser pulse, the method comprising the steps of obtaining root-mean-square widths of the pulse through second order moments of the pulse; obtaining a spectral width of the pulse using the root-mean-square widths; obtaining a root-mean square temporal width of the pulse; and defining a Pulse Quality Factor proportional to a product of the spectral width and the temporal width. This approach does not require complete characterization of laser pulses and eliminates the need of any assumption to interpret autocorrelation traces. The method can be applied to pulses of arbitrary shape.
