Patent number: 7459836Abstract: The present invention relates to composite piezoelectric apparatus, transducers and methods of manufacture. In an embodiment, a composite piezoelectric apparatus has a sacrificial base and pillar array. Different volume percents of piezoelectric material are used in the sacrificial base and pillar array. A first volume percent in the base is lower than the second volume percent in the pillar array. In this way, the sacrificial base can be easily removed from the pillar array after the base and pillar array are sintered in the manufacture of a final composite piezoelectric transducer. A method of manufacturing a composite piezoelectric transducer from a sacrificial base and pillar array and a composite piezoelectric transducer made by the method are provided. A composite piezoelectric transducer stack is provided.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2006Date of Patent: December 2, 2008Assignee: Cross Match TechnologiesInventor: Walter Guy Scott

Patent number: 7162060Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product is provided that controls platen movement during a live scan. The platen moves in response to finger movement. The present invention then applies a counter force that counters the platen movement. In one embodiment, the counter force has a magnitude which is a function of the speed of the platen movement. The platen can move in a lateral direction (right or left) in response to the finger. The direction in which the counter force is applied is a direction that counters the platen movement in a determined direction. In one example, the force is applied through a motor that drives the platen in a direction opposite the direction of movement caused by the finger or fingers during the live scan. In this way, the counter force which is applied helps prevent a user from moving a finger too rapidly during the live scan. As a result, a high-quality fingerprint image can be obtained with less training and experience in live scan fingerprinting.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1999Date of Patent: January 9, 2007Assignee: Cross Match TechnologiesInventors: Gary Barton, John F. Patent number: 6886104Abstract: A mobile, hand-held fingerprint scanner is recharged by a data and power communication interface. The mobile, hand-held fingerprint scanner includes a rechargeable power supply and a data and power communication interface. The rechargeable power supply powers the fingerprint scanner during mobile use. In one example, the rechargeable power supply includes at least one rechargeable battery, a charging circuit, and a voltage regulator circuit. Data and recharging power is carried over the sane interface. A separate plug for power is not needed. The fingerprint scanner can then be inserted quickly and easily in a docking station as only a single data and power communication interface need be coupled. This is particularly advantageous in law enforcement applications where mobile use is important and safety can be compromised if a mobile scanner does not couple to a docking station quickly and easily.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2000Date of Patent: April 26, 2005Assignee: Cross Match TechnologiesInventors: George William McClurg, David Brunell, Walter Guy Scott

Patent number: 6744910Abstract: A hand-held fingerprint scanner having local storage of image normalization data is disclosed, as well as a method of manufacturing such a scanner. The image normalization data is representative of fixed pattern noise associated with the image sensor used in the fingerprint scanner. This data may be combined with the raw image data resulting in normalized image data. The image normalization data is stored in non-volatile memory where it can be transmitted to a host processor. Alternatively, the fingerprint scanner may include a normalization processor, allowing transmission of normalized fingerprint images to a host processor. Also disclosed is a fingerprint scanning system having remote fingerprint scanners with local storage of image normalization data.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1999Date of Patent: June 1, 2004Assignee: Cross Match Technologies, Inc.Inventors: George William McClurg, David Brunell, Walter Guy Scott

Patent number: 6687391Abstract: A scanning device for electronically capturing a fingerprint image, employing a finger guide unit and a platen. The finger guide unit positions a finger for scanning by means of a gap into which the finger is placed. The guide maintains the finger within the print scanning range when used in conjunction with a movable platen. The guide unit is rotatable allowing the guide to be moved to expose the whole movable platen. The finger guide unit has two guide plates disposed adjacent one another creating a gap. The gap width is adjustable by means of an adjustment device, allowing fingers of any size to be properly positioned and guided within the scanner reading range. The guide plates each have an edge lined with low-friction material which contacts the finger when in use. The guide plates each have an extension which serves as a handle for raising the guide unit and as a hanger for suspending the guide unit above the platen for use.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1999Date of Patent: February 3, 2004Assignee: Cross Match Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Walter Guy Scott, Dean Fedele, John F.
