    Abstract: The electric lamp has an information-displaying external coating (3) which is provided on the lamp envelope. The coating (3) comprises a metal oxide as the pigment, which is dispersed in a polysiloxane matrix which may contain lithium. The coating (3) is obtained by using a marking ink, which may be applied by means of an ink jet printing process.
