    Abstract: A method of controlling growth and development of plants is provided herein. More particularly, a method of controlling growth and development of potato plants by increasing or decreasing the expression of a gene encoding calmodulin is set forth. Transgenic potato plants carrying sense nucleic acid constructs of pPCM-1, a cDNA clone of potato calmodulin, exhibit unexpected increased shoot and tuber growth, whereas plants carrying antisense nucleic acid constructs exhibit decreased shoot and tuber growth.
