  • Patent number: 6478206
Abstract: A method of forming a scribe line on a work surface is carried out by a scribing apparatus comprising a scribe body including an abutment member, such as cutter provided with an penetrator, having at least first and second ridgelines and a sharp tip end portion and a vibration generating member for periodically applying vibrations to the abutment member. A vibration is applied to the abutment member with the tip end portion thereof abutting against the work surface, and the scribe body is relatively moved along the work surface to thereby form a scribe line on the work surface. In this scribing method, a first angle constituted by the first ridgeline of the abutment member and the work surface and a second angle constituted by the second ridgeline thereof and the work surface are made different from each other and the first and second ridgelines are opposed in the moving direction of the scribe body.

  • Patent number: 6470782
Abstract: A scribe device comprises a body (10). A holder (20) is supported by the body (10) such that the holder (20) can slightly slide in a direction of a slide axis (Lb) which intersects a surface of a workpiece (100). Retaining portions (15, 21) spaced apart in a direction of the slide axis (Lb) are formed on the body (10) and the holder (20), respectively. A vibratory actuator (40) is sandwiched between the retainer portion of the body and the retainer portion of the holder. The holder (20) holds an abutment member (30). The holder is biased by a biasing member (23) such that said retaining portion of the holder is pressed against the vibratory actuator. The vibratory actuator renders the vibrations in the direction of the slide axis to the holder. The abutment member transmits the vibrations from the holder to the workpiece. That is, the abutment member (30) is subjected to a static force and a vibration energy and pressed against the workpiece (100).

  • Patent number: 6460258
Abstract: A scribe body (A) includes an abutment member (30) and a vibration generating member (40) for applying vibrations to the abutment member (30). The scribe body (A) is connected to a support portion (6) of a slide mechanism (3) through a vibration damping member (7). Two pairs of vibration damping members (7) are vertically spacedly arranged. The vibration damping members (7) of each pair are arranged on the left and right sides of the scribe body (A). By relatively moving the abutment member (30), which is pressed against a surface of a workpiece by its own weight of the scribe body (A), along the surface of the workpiece while applying vibration, which are generated by the vibration generating member (40), to the abutment member (30), a scribe line is formed in the surface of the workpiece. Vibration of the scribe (A) is damped by the vibration damping member (7).

Abstract: A body (10) movably supports a holder (20) for movement in a vertical direction. A piezo actuator (40) is sandwiched between the body (10) and the holder (20). Vertical vibrations of the piezo actuator (40) are transmitted to a cutter (30) attached to a lower end portion of the holder (20), so that a scribe line is formed on a workpiece (100). The holder (20) is supported by a resilient member and a slide support portion (60) with the piezo actuator (40) placed therebetween. The resilient member includes a plate spring (61) and a ball (62) made of resilient material. The resilient member resiliently supports the holder (20) in the vibrating directions.

  • Patent number: 6310678
Abstract: A square sell 1 has a first port (5) and a second port (6) formed in its opposing first and second edge portions, respectively and third and fourth ports (7a, 7b, 8a, 8b) formed in its third and fourth edge portions respectively. An evacuating operation is performed at the second port (6). A liquid crystal injecting operation is performed at the first port (5) when a predetermined degree of vacuum is reached. At the third and fourth ports (7a, 7b, 8a, 8b), first, an evacuating operation is performed. Then, the evacuating operation is switched over to the liquid crystal injecting operation at the third and fourth ports (7a, 7b, 8a, 8b) by means of a switch-over operation of electromagnetic switch valves (15a, 15b, 16a, 16b).

  • Patent number: 5751392
Abstract: One end of a vacuum evacuation passage is connected to a suction port of a cell and one end of a liquid crystal supply passage is connected to an introduction port of the cell. In that state, an internal space of the cell is evacuated through the vacuum evacuation passage and the suction port. Thereafter, a pressurized liquid crystal is supplied to the internal space of the cell through the liquid crystal supply passage and the introduction port while evacuating the internal space of the cell. After the completion of a liquid crystal filling operation to the internal space of the cell, the supply of the pressurized liquid crystal is stopped and the level of the negative pressure in the vacuum evacuation passage is gradually eased to the level of the atmospheric pressure.

  • Patent number: 5638876
Abstract: A liquid crystal introduction connector includes a connector body. The connector body has a guide groove formed in its front surface and a receiving space formed backwardly of the guide groove. A resilient seal member is received in the receiving space. A nozzle member is allowed to extend through the seal member such that the nozzle member can move forwardly and backwardly. The nozzle member is biased forwardly by a spring. When a side edge of a cell having an introduction port is inserted through the guide groove, the seal member is resiliently deformed to receive the side edge. Under the effect of the spring, the nozzle member is brought into abutment with the side edge of the cell. The liquid crystal passes through a liquid crystal supply passageway and reaches the introduction port of the cell via nozzle ports of the nozzle member.

  • Patent number: 5461502
Abstract: An apparatus for feeding a liquid crystal includes a support member having a rotational axis and capable of rotating about the rotational axis. A thin container is supported by the support member. In that supporting condition, an air discharge port of the container is near to the rotational axis, a liquid crystal feed port is away from the rotational axis, and the air discharge port is open to the atmosphere. The liquid crystal is fed through the feed port while rotating the support member about the rotational axis. Rotation of the support member causes a centrifugal force to be applied to a leading edge of the liquid crystal which has been fed in the container, the direction of the centrifugal force being reverse to a proceeding direction of the leading edge.
