Abstract: There are disclosed pharmaceutical compositions comprising at least one cytostatic agent and N.sup..epsilon. -trimethylthyllysin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, optionally in association with conventional pharmaceutical carriers and other additives.The new compositions possess a reduced toxicity compared with the cytostatic agents administered alone.

Abstract: Tumor inhibiting alkaloids are recovered from Vinca Rosea L. by a method which comprises extracting the dried leaves with a solvent selected from the group consisting of an alkanol having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, a mixture of an alkanol having 1 to 5 carbon atoms and a dilute, aqueous solution, benzene and benzene homologs; subsequently purifying the alkaloid extract obtained by a phase-change method between immiscible solvents, precipitating the main amount of dimeric alkaloids in form of their sulphuric acid addition salts, isolating leurosine, vincistine, vinblastine, desacetoxy-vinblastine, N-desmethyl-vinblastine and desacetyl-vinblastine from the salt mixture obtained, and then completing the separation and isolation of the remaining alkaloids by separation and isolation by adjusting the pH-value of the mother liquor, after precipitation and removal of the salt mixture, to 5.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of L-aspartyl-(O-sulfato-L-tyrosyl)-L-methionyl-glycyl-L-tryptophyl-L-methion yl-L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine amide, which comprises treating the protected octapeptide amide of the general formula (II) ##STR1## wherein X is BOC, Cbz or Ddz,Y is O.sup.t Bu, OBzl or OH andW is O.sup.t Bu, OBzl or OH,in the presence of an ether with an excess of the complex compound of sulfur trioxide and a tertiary amine containing at least one alkyl group, converting the obtained sulfate ester of the protected octapeptide amide into an alkali metal salt and simultaneously removing the formyl group from the tryptophan unit by reacting the sulfate ester with an alkali metal hydroxide, and then splitting off the remaining protective groups by acidolysis.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for the treatment of the red mud byproduct of the Bayer aluminum process, wherein limestone, hydrated lime or other CaO-containing material is added to the red mud in certain molar proportions to the ingredients of the red mud, then the mixture is further mixed with a reducing agent, and the entire mixture is subjected to a reducing heat treatment during the course of which the mix becomes softened or molten. The iron and the slag are separated from each other while the mix is still molten, or after it has been cooled, and then the Na and Al-content of the slag is extracted with a sodium carbonate solution containing a caustic, or with a sodium carbonate solution and a solution of a caustic in two steps.
