Patent number: 10366055Abstract: The claimed subject matter decreases duplicate entries and loops in an activity record. An exemplary method comprises analyzing a new entry from a user to determine an originating service and a type of activity and extracting an identifying portion of the new entry. The identifying portion includes a predetermined number of characters at a beginning of the entry. Additionally, the predetermined number of characters is based on a likelihood of duplicates in the activity record. The identifying portion is compared to a list of prior entries from the user, and an exclusion action is performed, if the new entry matches one in the list of prior entries. The exclusion action may be to hide the new entry, to delete the new entry, or to collapse the new entry into a matching prior entry.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2014Date of Patent: July 30, 2019Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Robert M. Dolin, Oludare Victor Obasanjo, Douglas R. Pearce, Seung-Hae Park, Gyorgy K. Schadt, Robert W. Piper, Kerstin Weinberg

Patent number: 9449016Abstract: Techniques for data synchronization policies are described. In one or more implementations, techniques may be employed to set data synchronization (“sync”) policies for devices in a data sync environment. The sync policies specify parameters for sync operations in the sync environment, such as how frequently data sync operations are performed, what types of data are synced to particular devices, how frequently particular types of data are synced, and so on. In implementations, the sync policies consider the number of devices that are participating in a sync environment and attributes of the devices in specifying parameters for sync operations. Data can be synchronized among devices in the sync environment based on the sync policies.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2011Date of Patent: September 20, 2016Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Gyorgy K. Schadt, John E. Brezak, David A. Nichols, Oded Y. Shekel, Albert Hwang, Patrick R. Jakubowski, Ronakkumar N. Desai

Patent number: 9288210Abstract: Techniques are described to provide revocable object access. In an implementation, a user may provide content and an object (e.g., a picture) to be published with the content. The object is uploaded to a storage location, and a uniform resource locator (URL) that includes a token is generated for the object. The token is registered in an access control list (ACL), and token permission settings in the ACL are utilized to control access to the object. The URL may be embedded in the content. When a viewer requests the content, the object may be retrieved from the storage location using the URL. The user may revoke access to the object by changing the token permission settings in the ACL.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2009Date of Patent: March 15, 2016Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Joseph Andrew Bono, Jeffrey E. Patent number: 9020183Abstract: An image to be shared with other users based on input from a first user is received. A second user is identified from a tag of the image, and information is provided, based at least in part on the tag, to one or both of the first user and the second user. Additionally, after editing of an image a determination can be made as to whether a region of the image having an associated tag has been affected by the editing. The tag associated with the region is altered if the region has been affected by the editing, otherwise the tag associated with the region is left unaltered. Furthermore, the tag can include a first portion storing data identifying a region of the image to which the tag corresponds, and a second portion storing data identifying a person shown in the region.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2013Date of Patent: April 28, 2015Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Karthik G. Patent number: 8683311Abstract: A method described herein includes receiving data that identifies a web page, wherein the data that identifies the web page is desirably displayed to a first individual and resolving the web page to generate a markup language document, wherein the markup language document comprises unstructured data. The method also includes extracting portions of the markup language document and generating a structured data object, wherein the structured data object includes the portions of the markup language document. The method further includes causing a summary of the web page to be displayed to the first individual, wherein the summary of the web page is based at least in part upon the structured data object.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2009Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Francislav P. Patent number: 8666156Abstract: In accordance with one or more aspects of the image-based backgrounds for images, an image is analyzed in order to identify a color that represents the image. An enhanced background is generated based at least in part on the identified color, and both the image and the enhanced background are output on a screen. In addition, or alternatively, the identified color can be saved as being associated with the image in order to be used to generate an enhanced background for the image when the image is displayed.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2012Date of Patent: March 4, 2014Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Gyorgy K.
