  • Patent number: 9086587
Abstract: In a liquid crystal display (LCD), a thickness of a passivation layer overlapping signal lines is larger than a thickness of portion of the passivation layer not overlapping signal lines. A spacer may be formed to overlap the signal lines. In an aperture region of the LCD, a thickness of the passivation layer between a common electrode and a pixel electrode is relatively small, and therefore, it may be possible to prevent reduction in the intensity of the electric field between the common electrode and the pixel electrode. Since thickness of the passivation layer may be relatively large, it may be possible to prevent a signal delay of common voltage. A spacer may be formed overlapping signal lines with relatively thick passivation layer. The spacer may have a small height. Cell gap may be adjusted to be uniform, and prevent reduction in aperture ratio of the LCD.

  • Patent number: 8730422
Abstract: A liquid crystal display uses a layout which reduces the number of data lines relative to the number of pixel columns by providing one data line for every two pixel columns. The display is structured to prevent a passivation layer from becoming opaque due to a manufacturing haze effect by forming the pixel electrode below a gate insulating layer. It is structured to prevent a drain electrode from being damaged due to an etchant used for patterning the pixel electrode. Further, it is structured to prevent a short circuit between a common voltage line and a gate line while not substantially reducing an aperture ratio by disposing a common voltage contact hole for electrically connecting the common voltage line with a common electrode between vertically extending portions of two gate lines that generally extend horizontally.

  • Patent number: 8599343
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device and a method of manufacturing the same are provided. The liquid crystal display device is manufactured by placing a half tone mask on the assembled first and second substrates in a polymerization process of liquid crystal composition disposed between the first and second substrates. The liquid crystal composition includes liquid crystal molecules and reactive mesogens. The half tone mask has a first transmission part and a second transmission part. The light transmittance of the first transmission part is higher than the light transmittance of the second transmission part. The first transmission part is disposed in the pixel region, while the second transmission part is disposed in the non-pixel region. The non-pixel region is covered by a black matrix that is formed on the second substrate. Through this manufacturing method, the generation of spots around a black matrix is prevented.

  • Patent number: 8174019
Abstract: A display apparatus includes a thin film transistor having a top-gate structure and a storage capacitor that are arranged on a first substrate. An upper electrode of the storage capacitor has a size larger than a size of a lower electrode, so as to cover an entire surface of the lower electrode in a plan view. Thus, electric field caused by static electricity may be prevented from accumulating at a corner of the upper electrode when the electric filed flows from the lower electrode to the upper electrode, thereby preventing an intermediate insulating layer from being burnt.

  • Patent number: 7800177
Abstract: A thin film transistor (TFT) plate having improved processing efficiency without degradation in performance and a method of fabricating the TFT plate are provided. The TFT plate includes gate insulating layer patterns made of dual layers. Upper portions of both sidewalls of an upper gate insulating layer pattern are substantially aligned with both sidewalls of a gate electrode. Lower portions of both sidewalls of the upper gate insulating layer pattern are substantially aligned with a boundary portion between a lightly doped region and a source region and a boundary portion between the lightly doped region and a drain region. Thus, the concentration of the lightly doped region under a lower gate insulating layer pattern gradually changes.

  • Publication number: 20060289939
Abstract: An LCD display device in which the gate lines are controlled by a gate circuit part that outputs gate signals to the gate lines. A first signal wiring is formed adjacent to the gate circuit part and transmits a starting signal, which initiates an operation of the gate circuit part, to the gate circuit part. A second signal wiring is formed at a side of the first signal wiring and transmits a control signal, which controls an output of the gate circuit part, to the gate circuit part. A first connection wiring is electrically connected between the gate circuit part and the second signal wiring. The first connection wiring is intersected with the first signal wiring. Therefore, a resistance of the wiring is increased to protect the gate circuit from static electricity.
