Abstract: An apparatus and a method for upgrading a program that controls a microprocessor. The program upgrading method includes: installing a Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) interface device in the system; recording the upgrading program in a PCMCIA card; downloading the upgrading program from the PCMCIA card through the PCMCIA interface device installed in the system under the control of the program stored in the memory; and upgrading the program stored in the memory with the downloaded program under the control of the program stored in the memory. The program upgrading method can perform program upgrading through a PCMCIA interface easily.

Abstract: A method for interfacing electrical signals transmitted between an engine controller and a video controller through first and second transmission lines in an image forming apparatus includes the steps of: transmitting first data indicating an engine power ready state from the engine controller to the video controller through the first transmission line when power is initially supplied to the engine controller, transmitting second data representive of a print ready state from the engine controller to the video controller through the first transmission line after performing a warm up operation on the image forming apparatus, transmitting third data representing commencement of a printing operation from the video controller to the engine controller through the second transmission line in response to an input of printing data to the video controller from an external source, transmitting fourth data representative of a request for page synchronization information from the engine controller to the video controller

Abstract: A power-saving printing method that wakes up an image-forming device prior to a print operation in order to reduce an extended print time resulting from a warm-up period of the device. One embodiment of the method includes the steps of: establishing a power-saving mode when the image-forming device has not received a print code for a predetermined period of time, determining whether a wake-up control code is included in a received print code, performing a wake-up operation and establishing a print ready state when the warm-up control code is included, and performing an operation corresponding to the received print code after the wake-up operation is performed when the wake-up control code is not included.
