  • Publication number: 20080156892
Abstract: An improved fireplace heat exchanger apparatus having one or more generally first hollow members, wherein each first member has an internally disposed second hollow member thereby creating an annular space between the interior surface of the first hollow member and the exterior surface of the second hollow member. Ducting is provided to direct air/gas flow through the heat exchanger in a controlled, counter-flow manner. The interior portion of the second hollow member is configured to accept a flow of a heat transfer medium for transferring heat energy to a desired location while the annular space is configured to accept a flow of hot combustion gasses from the combustion chamber and direct it toward a chimney. A nozzle disc located in the annular passageway proximate the inlet of hot combustion gasses causes the gasses to circulate within the annular passageway to enhance heat transfer to the second hollow member.

  • Publication number: 20080160894
Abstract: A fireplace chimney cap includes a body having first and second apertures in fluid communication defining a first cavity therebetween. The first cavity is configured and disposed to receive combustion air through the first aperture, then through the second aperture for delivery to a fireplace combustion chamber. The body has third and fourth apertures in fluid communication defining a second cavity therebetween. The second cavity is configured and disposed to receive combustion gases from the fireplace combustion chamber through the third aperture, then through the fourth aperture for exhausting exterior of the body. The first and second cavities are fluidly separated from each other. The first and fourth apertures are configured and disposed to provide a pitot effect to more readily draw both combustion air into the first cavity and combustion gases into the second cavity in response to the first aperture disposed upwind and fourth aperture position disposed downwind.

  • Patent number: 6047695
Abstract: For use with a fireplace, a heat exchanger mounted across the top portion of the fireplace with the heat exchanger comprising a heat exchanger core with four identical extruded core sections connected together around an inner spin chamber for the passage of combustion gases and surrounded by an outer spin chamber for the passage of combustion gases, with each core section having a center core passageway for the passage of room air and the heating of the room air by the heat from the combustion gases being transferred to the room air through the heat exchanger cores, and tortuous passageways between the core sections from the outer spin chamber to the inner spin chamber to increase the area of contact by the hot combustion gases to the core sections and to increase the dwell time of the combustion gases in the core to increase the amount of heat transferred to the combustion gases to the room air in the core sections.
