Patent number: 4986186Abstract: A notched cartridge or casing is provided to mitigate the shock damage to a gun barrel or firing chamber when a cartridge with large amounts of explosive or propellant is fired. The cartridge or casing comprising a generally cylindrical shell with an open top end and a closed base is provided with an annular area near the base and a circular area on the base which have reduced wall thicknesses compared to the rest of the cartridge. The annular and circular areas have external surfaces which are inwardly displaced with respect to the outer surface of the remainder of the cartridge. Upon firing of the cartridge, the areas of reduced wall thickness expand outwardly and are plastically deformed without touching the barrel or firing chamber. Damage to the barrel and/or breech is prevented and the cartridge is easily removed for reloading of the gun system.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1988Date of Patent: January 22, 1991Assignee: General Dynamics Corporation Air Defense Systems Division, Pomona FacilityInventors: Edward W. Patent number: 4747717Abstract: Guide means for a printer including two conductor members for guiding a paper web out of the printer. In a first position, the conductor members form a tightly fitting cover for a rectangular hole in a casing associated with the printer, where the paper web is conducted in a gap, tapering in the direction of paper advance, between the conductor members and out of the printer. In a second position of the conductor members, a rectangular opening is formed behind the members, making the paper web accessible for feeding into a tractor feeder of the push-pull traction feed type.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1987Date of Patent: May 31, 1988Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M EricssonInventor: Leif H. Patent number: 4645363Abstract: A pivotal guide for changing the direction of a typing ribbon in typewriters such that when raising or lowering the ribbon at the printing location relative to the printing element, transverse forces are eliminated. The guide comprises a cylindrical body having a longitudinal slot which receives an end wall of the magazine, the bottom of the slot being formed with two projecting sloped surfaces which intersect midway of the body to form a pivot axis for the body on the edge of the end wall. The body has cylindrical end surfaces confined between cover plates of the magazine to limit axial movement of the guide body and the ribbon thereon.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1984Date of Patent: February 24, 1987Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM EricssonInventor: Leif H. Patent number: 4575912Abstract: The invention relates to a steel and a process for its manufacture which is suitable for the production of springs, especially leafsprings for vehicles. The steel which is vacuum-treated is an ordinary low-carbon steel with 0.20-0.04% C. Its composition is incidentally characterized in that the oxygen content does not exceed 0.040% and in that boron is added to an amount of 0.002-0.004% and titanium to an amount of 0.015-0.050%. The addition of boron causes the hardenability to increase greatly, thus making it possible to keep the carbon content low and, in consequence, reducing the danger of destructive decarbonization.A characteristic of the process of production consists in the fact that the steel is produced in an oxygen converter in such a manner that the nitrogen content in the ladle does not exceed 20 ppm, in that it is subsequently subjected to vacuum treatment and in that Al is added so that the amount of uncombined oxygen drops to max.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1984Date of Patent: March 18, 1986Assignee: SSAB Svenskt Stal ABInventors: Carl E. Patent number: 4530462Abstract: A method and apparatus for separating, spreading and distributing a solid or liquid particulate material. The particulate material is pneumatically conveyed into a centrifugal chamber within a rotor (20) operatable by the flow of material for centrifugal separation of the particulate material. The terminal edge of the circumference of the centrifugal chamber serves as an overflow for establishing a buffer store and has a flow-retarding inwardly directed flange. A baffle may be provided around the terminal edge to intercept the material flung out and to conduct the material, via hopper-like flow-retarding recesses, to different outlets provided around the terminal edge.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1983Date of Patent: July 23, 1985Assignee: Ingenjorsfirman Alf Andersson HandelsbolagInventor: Alf H. Patent number: 4516690Abstract: An apparatus for planting seeds in drills at predetermined intervals is adapted to transport the seeds one by one by means of spoons (8) from a seed store to an outlet duct (10). To ensure a reliable, selective discharge of the seeds from the spoons (8), a compressed-air nozzle (13) is arranged to direct a flow of compressed air from a location opposite the inlet opening (11) of the outlet duct (10) towards each individual spoon (8) as it passes between the nozzle and the inlet opening (11).Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1982Date of Patent: May 14, 1985Inventor: Alf H. Patent number: 4501510Abstract: A feed mechanism for sheets of material or continuous webs in a printer or typewriter, comprising a pin wheel feed mechanism for the feeding of continuous webs and a friction feed mechanism for the feeding of sheets of paper as well as the webs. The pin wheel feed mechanism and the friction feed mechanism are coupled together in at least two separate units for the feeding of the webs. During feeding of the webs the frictional feed pressure is reduced compared to that prevailing during friction feed of the sheets when the pin wheel feed mechanism is inactive.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 1983Date of Patent: February 26, 1985Assignee: Facit AktiebolagInventor: Leif H. Patent number: 4349284Abstract: A printing office machine in which a movable print head is driven by a device comprising a fixed, mounted lead screw and a cooperating nut member connected to an electric motor. The nut member is rotatably mounted in a carrier frame and comprises an inner tubular member which is journalled on the lead screw. An outer tubular member is journalled on the inner tubular member. An end part of the outer tubular member bears against a flange on the inner tubular member under friction. The two members are turnably interconnected by spring means, and the free ends of the members support rotatable bearings which bear on flanks of grooves cut in the lead screw. Each bearing cooperates with the groove flank which faces the respective end of the tubular member. The drive device has a very great freedom from play, and at the same time the friction prevailing between the nut member and the lead screw is minimized.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1980Date of Patent: September 14, 1982Assignee: Facit AktiebolagInventor: Leif H. Patent number: 4271662Abstract: A machine for harvesting the overground foliage of a row crop growing in a field. The machine has a plurality of stripping wheels each for harvesting and disintegrating the foliage in one row of the crop. Each stripping wheel is arranged in a casing having an obliquely upwardly directed outlet, and produces an air stream for transporting the disintegrated foliage up through the outlet of the casing. In order to attain great cutting efficiency per time unit and keep the harvested material as clean as possible, the machine has a collecting channel connected at one end to an ejector pipe. The collecting channel extends above the stripping wheel casings which are arranged in a row one beside the other and whose outlets extend obliquely upwards in the same direction towards the ejector pipe and open at intervals one after the other into a lower portion of the collecting channel.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1979Date of Patent: June 9, 1981Assignee: Svenska Sockerfabriks ABInventors: Alf H.
