Patent number: 6085107Abstract: A radio communication method and system employs power level presetting to mitigate the increase in interference caused by the discontinuous transmission of mobile stations. In the downlink, power presetting entails detecting the entry (or removal) of mobile stations to a cell, and in response thereto, calculating a plurality of power adjustment values for each mobile station within the cell. In the uplink, power presetting entails estimating an increase in interference caused by the entry (or removal) of mobile stations to a cell, and using this estimate for calculating an updated power target for each mobile station within the cell. Power presetting is also initiated in response to one or more mobile stations switching from high data-rate mode to low data-rate mode, or vice versa.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1997Date of Patent: July 4, 2000Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM EricssonInventors: Anders H.ang.kan Persson, Paul Peter Butovitsch, Carl Magnus Thornberg, Joseph Eric Turcotte, Anisur M. Patent number: 6052589Abstract: A telecommunications system is disclosed for extending the range of at least two service networks having different specified signalling standards. The telecommunications system includes a radio-based access network which includes at least one port to each service network. The ports are connected to at least one base station in the access network. The access network also includes a radio-based access network part capable of connecting the base station to a radio unit in the access network. The radio unit is registered in one of the service networks, the so-called home network of the radio unit, and a signal carrier in the access network has a first terminal point in the radio unit and a second terminal point in a port which connects the access network with the home network. The port functions to combine the signal carrier in the access network with a signal carrier in the home network.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1997Date of Patent: April 18, 2000Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM EricssonInventors: A. Patent number: 6028851Abstract: A system for inhibiting the transmission of an access request message from a mobile station when either the system is incapable of granting access at the class of service desired by the mobile or access by the mobile at that class of service would increase the interference level of the target base station or a neighboring base station past its interference capacity. In one embodiment, each base station broadcasts a maximum data rate access parameter and any mobile receiving that parameter and seeking access at a greater data rate refrains from transmitting an access request message. In another embodiment, each mobile calculates from its path loss to the base station the power level it must transmit in order to gain access as well as the effect of that transmission on the interference level of both the target base station and neighboring base stations. If transmission at the required power level would increase the interference level of any base station past its maximum capacity, the transmission is inhibited.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1997Date of Patent: February 22, 2000Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Anders H.ang.kan Persson, Per Hans ke Willars, Robert Alexandersson

Patent number: 5946357Abstract: Apparatus and associated method for improving the radio link performance of a radio communication system, such as a cellular communication system. Multi-stage encoding and interleaving of the data bits of a digital information signal is performed at a single logical device, such as a radio base station. By performing two stages of interleaving over the same number of information frames of the data bits, only a single buffering stage is required to perform such multi-stage interleaving.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1997Date of Patent: August 31, 1999Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M EricssonInventors: Tomas Sandin, Paul Teder, H.ang.kan Persson

Patent number: 5881150Abstract: The present invention relates to a hinge mechanism which provides a tight sound guide joint in a sound guide (13) which is split between a communication unit (11) and a foldable flip part (12). At least two shaft elements (21, 22) pivotally connect the flip part to the communication unit. Each shaft element is arranged in a respective pivot point (26, 27) for the flip part along the pivot axis (25) of the flip part. The sound guide joint is arranged in a first pivot point (26) for the flip part between an opposing surface on the flip part and an opposing surface on the communication unit. The sound guide parts (13a, 13b) are thereby connected to each other irrespective of which pivot position the flip part takes up relative to the communication unit. The hinge mechanism comprises at least one compressive resilient element (32), which, via a shaft element (22) in a second pivot point (27), exerts a force on the two opposing surfaces so that the sound guide joint is pressed together and becomes sound-tight.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1997Date of Patent: March 9, 1999Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM EricssonInventor: Per-H.ang.kan Persson
