  • Publication number: 20090146043
Abstract: A modular form has stackable upper and lower forms for casting concrete highway barriers. The lower form has opposing lower faces spaced apart to define a lower mold cavity, ties removably extending through the lower faces and lower mold cavity, and attachment angles extending along the top edges of the lower faces. The upper form has opposing upper faces spaced apart to define an upper mold cavity, ties removably extending through the upper faces and upper mold cavity, and attachment angles extending along the bottom edges of the upper faces. After the upper form has been stacked atop the lower form, fasteners are employed to removably secure the attachment angles of the lower form to those of the upper form. Thus, the upper and lower mold cavities are vertically aligned to create a combined cavity for forming a concrete highway barrier.

  • Patent number: 6601820
Abstract: A gang form for use with a concrete form system is provided. The concrete form system has a plurality of said gang forms and a plurality of tie rods. An improved insert having four sides is positioned between two adjacent form panels having flanges with flange openings therein. Side openings in the third and fourth sides of the insert are aligned with the flange openings. Attachment devices are inserted in the side openings and flange openings to attach the insert to the two adjacent form panels and to provide the gang form. At least one lock member is rotatably attached to the second side of the improved insert. One of the plurality of tie rods extends through a tie rod opening in the first and second sides of the insert and is firmly secured to the insert by moving the lock member from an unlocked position to a locked position. Thus, the gang form is interconnected to the concrete form system.

  • Patent number: 6237890
Abstract: A support apparatus with a tie lock tool and a clamp for a concrete form system. Opposing form panels are held in fixed relation to one another with at least one form tie having either a loop head or button head extending between the form panels. A tie lock tool engages a waler positioned on the form panel. The tie lock tool has a form tie opening, configured to receive the head. A lock member, of the tie lock tool, has two claws and is rotatable between an unlocked and a locked position. The first claw has an extension beyond the second claw for abutting the head extended through the form tie opening when the lock member is unlocked. When the lock member is locked, the head is firmly held, thus securing the form tie to the tie lock tool, the waler and the form panel. A strong back of variable depth is secured to the tie lock tool with an adjustable clamp.

  • Patent number: 5857300
Abstract: An adjustable radius form assembly is provided which includes a plurality of vertical strongbacks and a plurality of horizontal walers. Each of the walers are pre-rolled to a desired radius. The walers are then connected to one another by ball and socket type adjusters which enable the end to end arrangement of the walers to accommodate an overall form assembly having a wide range of curvatures or radii. The plurality of end to end walers and plurality of corresponding strongbacks may define a gang form length. A number of gang form lengths may be connected to one another to create the desired form assembly for the structure to be constructed. The vertical strongbacks may be placed at desired spacings along the horizontal lengths of the corresponding walers by adjustment of connectors on said strongbacks extending through slotted plates on the walers.

  • Patent number: 5088578
Abstract: The invention also contemplates a retractable corner mechanism for the inside corner of the concrete form. The mechanism comprises an elongated corner member having first and second perpendicular faces joined along a first edge of each face to form a corner and having form attaching means along a second edge. A concrete form has an end attached to each of the second edges. Means are provided for sliding the forms relative to the corner member and means is provided for retracting and extending the forms to cause the corner member to be retracted and extended. The forms can be made of plywood or metal and the use of steel is contemplated for the corner members. The retracting and extending means can include an externally threaded rod pivotally connected adjacent the end of one of the concrete forms and an internally threaded member pivotally connected adjacent the end of the other of the concrete forms and treadably received on the rod.

  • Patent number: 4974700
Abstract: An apparatus has been provided for vertically lifting or lowering a workman and/or materials at a construction site. This includes a rectangular platform having four corners for supporting the workman and/or material so that they can be vertically moved within an elevator shaft or the like. The platform has side edges positioned adjacent the side walls of the shaft. The platform can be raised or lowered by a crane. Recesses are provided in opposite side walls for receiving latches attached to the corners of the platform. The latches are locked in place when they are positioned within the recesses and can be retracted when the platform is to be raised and lowered. Also, leveling devices are provided at the corners of the platform for leveling the panels and devices are also provided for holding the panels in proper location prior to pouring the concrete.

  • Patent number: 4899978
Abstract: A form tie lock is provided which is releasably locked in an open position and swings over center to a closed position. A ramp is provided on an opening through which a form tie loop extends in order to compensate for any deflection of the claw of the form tie lock due to pressure exerted thereon by the form tie so that the lock will swing past the opening into locked position. Suitable recesses and detents are provided for mounting the lock on walers or other mounting surfaces. Also an arcuate reinforcing rib is provided on the plate to minimize bending or fracture thereof.

  • Patent number: 4304388
Abstract: A form tie lock tool is provided which includes the combination of a cam lock member for use with hand set concrete panels and an anchor lock member for use with gang form concrete panels. The tool includes a frame having a first opening and a second opening formed therein. A tie lock member, including the cam lock member and the anchor lock member, is connected to the frame. A form tie having a pair of looped ends is insertable between a pair of the hand set form panels. In one embodiment, each of the looped ends is receivable through a slot in one of the hand set panels to be grippingly engaged by the cam lock member which is then rotatable in a first direction to secure the form tie between the hand set panels. Similarly, a form tie having a pair of looped ends is insertable between a pair of gang form panels.

  • Patent number: 4218039
Abstract: A form tie and a method of making the same is provided. The form tie includes an elongated hollow protective sleeve contiguously surrounding a portion of the form tie to facilitate the removal of the form tie portion from a settable casting, such as concrete. The thickness of the sleeve is minimized so that the cross-sectional area of the form tie portion which includes the surrounding sleeve is also minimized.

  • Patent number: 4158452
Abstract: A clamping lock is provided for use with a looped tie in a form for settable casting compositions, such as concrete, which lock is provided with protrusions on each of a pair of clamping members to fit into aligned connector slots of a pair of rails of adjacent panels of the form to properly position and firmly secure the lock to the form. The securing of the clamping members on the rails also holds adjacent panels of the form together. The rails are provided with tie notches which when panels are placed side by side and properly aligned the tie notches form tie slots through which a tie having loops at each end can be extended between panels of opposing sides or walls of the form structure. A tie opening is formed in the clamping lock through which the loop of a tie is adapted to extend. An anchor lock having a tapered arm is mounted on the clamping lock so that its arm can enter into a tie loop extending through the tie opening to secure the tie to the clamping lock and to tension the tie.

  • Patent number: 4034956
Abstract: A collapsible crypt form comprises an elongate rigid upper wall and two depending elongate rigid side walls joined at their adjacent margins by elongate rounded strips of resilient sheet material. Actuating means are connected to reinforcing rails at the lower edges of the side walls to extend them away from each other to operating position and retract them toward each other to reduce the effective height and width of the form for release from a finished recess. A back plate is held against the aft end of the body to prevent entry of flowable concrete and is disconnected from the body and removed from the recess after the body has been removed. A plurality of forms are placed in side by side spaced relation on a concrete slab with their forward ends in alignment with the forward edge of the slab and form plates are secured to the forms, locking them together and preventing loss of concrete.
