  • Patent number: 7733881
Abstract: An end node in a packet-switched network is proposed wherein the end node is arranged to exchange packets consisting of a packet header and payload data with a server node connected to the packet-switched network. The end node includes at least one module adapted to extract quality of service parameter values from the headers of packets received over the packet-switched network and to insert the extracted quality of service parameter value in the headers of packets destined for transmission to the server node over the packet-switched network. In this manner the end node automatically adapts the quality of service parameters received over the packet-switched network to correspond with the type of quality of service defined in received packets. Such a system means that only the server node need be configured with the quality of service parameters applicable on the particular packet switched network, so greatly reducing the installation and configuration overheads in a multi-user network.

  • Patent number: 7697934
Abstract: The current invention relates to the registration of mobile stations in a mobile communications network. It has particular relevance to handovers and roaming between base stations of an unlicensed radio access network (110) and those of a conventional cellular network (120). As the cells in an unlicensed radio access network have a rather small size, it means that handover potentially can occur far more frequently than for a conventional cellular network. This can result in an undesired ‘ping-pong’ effect, i.e. that the mobile station is switching back and forth between two radio cells too frequently. The current invention reduces this effect by preventing the mobile station to register to the unlicensed radio access network during a modifiable period of time (306).

  • Patent number: 6985734
Abstract: A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for using H.248 Media Gateways within Access Networks of third-generation mobile systems. Each H.248 Access Network Media Gateway is capable of serving one or more radio servers of an Access Network, and one or more network servers of the Core Network. In addition, pools of devices (e.g., transcoders) can be shared between the radio servers and network servers. Furthermore, the Media Gateways within the Access Network can provide H.248 Virtual Gateways capable of serving the radio servers within two or more Access Networks and the network servers within the Core Network.
