  • Publication number: 20250190813
Abstract: Techniques are described for fine-tuning a neural network. A plurality of fine-tuning layers of a neural network are executed, each corresponding to a respective reference layer of a reference neural network. For each of the fine-tuning layers, a fine-tuning weight matrix is generated based on a reference weight matrix associated with the corresponding reference layer. One or more weights of the fine-tuning weight matrix are then iteratively adjusted based on a comparison of the output of the fine-tuning layer with the output of the corresponding reference layer.

  • Publication number: 20250092373
Abstract: Natural killer (NK) cells are innate lymphocytes that possess traits of adaptive immunity, such as memory formation. However, the molecular mechanisms by which NK cells persist to form memory cells are not well understood. Using single cell RNA sequencing, we identified two distinct effector NK cell (NKeff) populations following mouse cytomegalovirus (MCMV) infection. Ly6C? memory precursor (MP) NK cells displayed enhanced survival during the contraction phase in a Bcl2-dependent manner, and differentiated into Ly6C+ memory NK cells. Our studies show that a NK cell-intrinsic checkpoint is controlled by the transcription factor Fli1 which limits MP NK formation by regulating early effector NK cell fitness during viral infection. Building upon this discovery, we have designed methods and materials for modulating the molecular mechanisms that regulate memory cell fate in NK cells, such as genetically modified NK cells having a deletion in the gene for the transcription factor Fli1.

  • Publication number: 20240287225
Abstract: In at least one embodiment, a process to produce a poly alpha-olefin (PAO) includes introducing a first alpha-olefin to a first catalyst system comprising activator and a metallocene compound into a continuous stirred tank reactor or a continuous tubular reactor under first reactor conditions to form a first reactor effluent. The first alpha-olefin is introduced to the reactor at a flow rate of about 100 g/hr or more. The first reactor effluent includes at least 60 wt % of PAO dimer and 40 wt % or less of higher oligomers, where the higher oligomers are oligomers that have a degree of polymerization of 3 or more. The process includes introducing the first reactor effluent and a second alpha-olefin to a second catalyst composition including an acid catalyst in a second reactor to form a second reactor effluent comprising PAO trimer.

  • Publication number: 20240268336
Abstract: A dual modular system designed for versatile dog transportation allows for the simultaneous carriage of two bags, e.g., one positioned at the wearer's chest and another functioning as a rear- or back-positioned dog carrier. The system may also be used as a single bag either at the front or the back. An inconspicuous magnetic closure may be hidden behind the water bottle pocket on the bags' lower rear, as well as a detachable magnetic closure on the shoulder strap. This setup permits side attachment of bags and facilitates the upper part of the dog carrier bag connecting with the rear bag's shoulder strap. The lower sections of the shoulder straps may be equipped with detachable side release (SR) buckles, allowing individual wearing of the bag at the front or back and enable the wearer to pivot the bag to the front or back through water bottle slits.

  • Publication number: 20240211762
Abstract: An apparatus and method for efficiently creating less computationally intensive nodes for a neural network. In various implementations, a computing system includes a processor and a memory with circuitry that stores multiple input data values to process during inference of a trained neural network. The processor determines, during inference, which node input values, node intermediate values, and node output values of the trained neural network to represent in a respective one of multiple available floating-point formats with less precision. No retraining is performed, but rather, the updates to the representations occur during inference. The processor uses selection criteria to reduce the amount of computation involved for updating the representations during inference while maintaining accuracy above an accuracy threshold. To do so, the processor uses the selection criteria to reduce the number of layers, the number of nodes within a layer, and the number of weight values per node to inspect.

  • Patent number: 11894449
Abstract: Heterostructures include a layer of a two-dimensional material placed on a multiferroic layer. An ordered array of differing polarization domains in the multiferroic layer produces corresponding domains having differing properties in the two-dimensional material. When the multiferroic layer is ferroelectric, the ferroelectric polarization domains in the layer produce local electric fields that penetrate the two-dimensional material. The local electric fields modulate the charge carriers and carrier density on a nanometer length scale, resulting in the formation of lateral p-n or p-i-n junctions, and variations thereof appropriate for device functions.

  • Publication number: 20230409868
Abstract: Activation scaled clipping layers for neural networks are described. An activation scaled clipping layer processes an output of a neuron in a neural network using a scaling parameter and a clipping parameter. The scaling parameter defines how numerical values are amplified relative to zero. The clipping parameter specifies a numerical threshold that causes the neuron output to be expressed as a value defined by the numerical threshold if the neuron output satisfies the numerical threshold. In some implementations, the scaling parameter is linear and treats numbers within a numerical range as being equivalent, such that any number in the range is scaled by a defined magnitude, regardless of value. Alternatively, the scaling parameter is nonlinear, which causes the activation scaled clipping layer to amplify numbers within a range by different magnitudes. Each scaling and clipping parameter is learnable during training of a machine learning model implementing the neural network.
