  • Publication number: 20110153326
Abstract: A system and method for extracting acoustic features and speech activity on a device and transmitting them in a distributed voice recognition system. The distributed voice recognition system includes a local VR engine in a subscriber unit and a server VR engine on a server. The local VR engine comprises a feature extraction (FE) module that extracts features from a speech signal, and a voice activity detection module (VAD) that detects voice activity within a speech signal. The system includes filters, framing and windowing modules, power spectrum analyzers, a neural network, a nonlinear element, and other components to selectively provide an advanced front end vector including predetermined portions of the voice activity detection indication and extracted features from the subscriber unit to the server. The system also includes a module to generate additional feature vectors on the server from the received features using a feed-forward multilayer perceptron (MLP) and providing the same to the speech server.

  • Publication number: 20100126946
Abstract: A fluid filtering system includes a housing portion and a lid portion, with a safety pin mechanism extending through the lid portion which prevents the fluid filtering system from operating correctly through visual indicators. A vent bore is included in the housing which includes a vent gasket therein for proper seating of the lid portion against the housing portion to prevent leakage of fluid being filtered. An inner circumferential gasket is also included to secure the lid portion to the housing portion and to prevent fluid leakage. A camming interface between the lid portion and the housing portion assures a secure fit of both the lid portion and the housing portion; the safety pin mechanism disallows the lid portion from being removed from the housing portion, thereby preventing accidental, and unsafe, release of the lid portion from the housing portion.

  • Publication number: 20090193851
Abstract: Optical fiber preforms which can be drawn into optical fibers of desired dimensions are fabricated by applying a vacuum to a cladding tube and drawing molten glass from a crucible into a bore of the cladding tube while a portion of the cladding tube is within a furnace preferably through a small hole in the top of the furnace. The method and apparatus are particularly applicable to highly non-linear fiber (HNLF) glasses and highly doped or rare earth glasses since materials therein are generally expensive and only a small quantity of molten glass is required but can be applied to virtually any optical fiber construction where the core glass has a lower melting or softening point than that of the cladding tube. Sources of contamination, breakage and other preform defects are substantially avoided and toxic substances, if present are readily confined.

  • Publication number: 20080154605
Abstract: The present invention discloses a solution that dynamically adapts quality settings of a real-time speech synthesis system based upon load, which results in a proportional change in consumed resources. For example, when quantity of available CPU cycles is low, a quality of speech can be automatically lowered. When a quantity of available CPU cycles is high, a quality of speech can be automatically increased. Accordingly, the solution discloses an adaptive speech synthesis system that provides a highest possible quality of speech in a real-time environment experiencing rapid changes in request volume and/or complexity.

  • Publication number: 20080011669
Abstract: A fluid filter assembly prevents the filter from moving when fluid is not flowing through the filter. The filter assembly of the invention includes a mounting ring mountable in the filter opening. The mounting ring has a mounting interface, which includes an axially extending portion and a radially outwardly extending flange that has a diameter greater than the filter opening. A rib extends radially outwardly from and circumscribes the ring. The rib is seatable within an annular groove defined within the filter housing and circumscribing the filter opening. When the rib is positioned in the groove, the filter is releasably secured in the opening.

  • Publication number: 20070227968
Abstract: A filter for made of randomly arranged filaments. The filter has an upstream side where fluid enters and a downstream side where fluid exits. The filaments are greatest in diameter near the upstream side wherein the filaments continuously and gradually decrease in thickness toward the downstream side. The pores or spaces between the filaments are largest near the upstream side and decrease gradually toward the downstream side. This allows various size particles to become entrained in the filter in an evenly distributed manner.

  • Patent number: 7140144
Abstract: A fishing rod includes one or more signal devices in a portion thereof and a power system that is connected to and activates the one or more signal devices when the fishing rod is flexed by a fish. The connection between the one or more signal devices and a power source includes a control switch and an activation switch that includes an electrically conductive pin mounted on the fishing rod and an electrically conductive coil spring surrounding the electrically conductive pin. The circuit between the one or more signal devices and the power is completed when the control switch is in the “on” condition and the electrically conductive pin and the electrically conductive coil of the activation switch are in electrical contact with each other. A kit may be used to retrofit an existing fishing rod.

  • Patent number: 7089178
Abstract: A distributed voice recognition system and method for obtaining acoustic features and speech activity at multiple frequencies by extracting high frequency components thereof on a device, such as a subscriber station and transmitting them to a network server having multiple stream processing capability, including cepstral feature processing, MLP nonlinear transformation processing, and multiband temporal pattern architecture processing. The features received at the network server are processed using all three streams, wherein each of the three streams provide benefits not available in the other two, thereby enhancing feature interpretation. Feature extraction and feature interpretation may operate at multiple frequencies, including but not limited to 8 kHz, 11 kHz, and 16 kHz.

  • Patent number: 7078237
Abstract: A micropyrolyzer has applications to pyrolysis, heated chemistry, and thermal desorption from liquid or solid samples. The micropyrolyzer can be fabricated from semiconductor materials and metals using standard integrated circuit technologies. The micropyrolyzer enables very small volume samples of less than 3 microliters and high sample heating rates of greater than 20° C. per millisecond. A portable analyzer for the field analysis of liquid and solid samples can be realized when the micropyrolyzer is combined with a chemical preconcentrator, chemical separator, and chemical detector. Such a portable analyzer can be used in a variety of government and industrial applications, such as non-proliferation monitoring, chemical and biological warfare detection, industrial process control, water and air quality monitoring, and industrial hygiene.

  • Publication number: 20060086656
Abstract: A fluid filter assembly that includes a filter element that is selected from a plurality of differently sized fluid elements. The filter housing includes an inlet housing section, an outlet housing section and one or more modular housing sections. The modular housing sections are located between the inlet and outlet housing sections and the number of modular housing sections included in the housing is determined by the size of the selected filter element. By employing alternative numbers of the modular housing sections, the filter housing can be constructed for use with each of the differently sized filter elements.

  • Publication number: 20060086674
Abstract: A fluid filter assembly including a filter housing, a filter basket and a filter element and method of use. The filter basket has an unexpanded condition which allows it to be inserted into the fluid filter housing. During filtering operations, the filter basket expands and engages the interior surface of the filter housing at predefined locations. Filtered fluid discharged from the basket may flow between the filter housing and filter basket between the predefined locations of engagement. Radially outwardly extending projections on the filter basket may be used to engage the interior surface of the filter housing. The fluid element may include a bag filter.
