  • Patent number: 9005120
Abstract: A vital signs monitor system is integrated with personal protective equipment (“PPE”) so that upon wearing the PPE, the monitor is placed in an operational position to monitor a vital sign. In one embodiment, the vital signs sensor comprises a thermal sensor located at a mouth guard to automatically make operational contact with tissue under the tongue when the mouth guard is worn. A second vital signs monitor comprising reflective pulse oximetry devices senses oxygen saturation and heart rate. Vital signs data are communicated to an RF module located in an associated helmet for transmission to a remote location. A gateway at that remote location receives the transmitted vital signs data and forwards that data to a data collection, organization, and access system that is programmed to make the vital signs data available over the Internet.

  • Patent number: 8979753
Abstract: Described is a method of determining the relative risk of an outcome based on an analysis of multiple risk factors. A graphical method is used to take values corresponding to risk parameters and an event outcome to produce a smoothed surface map representing relative risk over an entire space defined by n risk factors. Applying a query data point to the surface map permits the determination of the estimated outcome probability for the query data point, based on its location on the surface map. The method then reports a relative risk or other probability measure associated with the query data point. Also described is a method of analysis in which subpopulations previously identified as high-risk can be further analyzed with respect to risk posed by additional factors.

  • Publication number: 20140200915
Abstract: Readmission risks of patients admitted to a healthcare facility are determined using a generic readmission risk algorithm. The readmission risk assessment of patients may be based on portions of a patient's profile and may be performed before, during, and after their index admission. Based on the readmission risk assessment of patients, those patients that are at a greater risk for readmission may be identified. A readmission prevention worklist may be provided that identifies those patients and facilitates managing the risk of readmission for those patients.

  • Publication number: 20140180699
Abstract: Systems, methods, and user interfaces for providing dynamic risk stratification for clinical decision support are provided. Selections of patient types are received for patients. Assessments to utilize are determined in accordance with the patient types. The assessments are displayed to facilitate first clinicians assessing risk factors and contraindications for the patients. Information associated with the patients is received. Second clinicians may be alerted if risk factors for the patients are identified and the assessments have not been completed. Pharmacologic and/or mechanical prophylaxis is recommended and overall risk levels associated with the patients are indicated.

Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for attachment to a jack including a first axle. The apparatus includes a fulcrum wheel disposed on a second axle, the second axle being connected directly or indirectly to the first axle. A lever has a first end connected directly or indirectly to the second axle and a second end having a terminus. A first line intersects the first axle and second axle. A second line intersects the second axle and the lever terminus. The first and second lines meet at an obtuse angle. In another aspect, an apparatus is disclosed including a jack having a first axle, an extension member, and a fulcrum wheel is disposed on a second axle connected to the extension member. A lever has a first end attachable to the extension member proximate the second axle. A method of moving a jack relative to a ground surface is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20110152696
Abstract: A system and associated method that provides a virtual coach to a person during an exercise routine includes a sensor used to sense the level of a physiological parameter of the exerciser, such as heart rate, a processor programmed to compare the sensed physiological parameter to a target level of the physiological parameter, and, depending on the comparison, provide coaching prompts to the exerciser. Coaching prompts include audible and visual prompts. In another feature, a visual image of a virtual coach may be made available for display to the exerciser, and in yet another feature, a video of the virtual coach saying the audio prompt may be displayed. The system allows for selection from a plurality of virtual coaches. The audio and video of virtual coaches are recordings of real people and may be produced or obtained from other sources. In one embodiment, audio, visual, and video of the virtual coach may be downloaded from the Internet.
