  • Publication number: 20230421412
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to channel estimation, at a receiving device of a communication system employing a (re)configurable surface. The channel estimation includes beamforming search to obtain trained reflection coefficients of the configurable surface and an angle of arrival, AoA, of the signals at the receiving device. Then, based on the configurable surface and the obtained AoA at the receiving device, reflection coefficients of the configurable surface are derived for an ideal channel portion between the transmitting device and the configurable surface. According to a relation between the trained reflection coefficients and the estimated reflection coefficients, the estimation of the characteristics of a channel between the transmitting device and the configurable surface is performed.

  • Publication number: 20230403094
Abstract: Disclosed is a channel-dependent multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) technique with adaptive spreading codes. Adaptive spreading codes are used for each subcarrier per user which increase the security level of conventional MC-CDMA. Two different map designs are proposed: fixed and adaptive interval maps. These maps are shared among all nodes and gives information about the spreading code sequences for corresponding channel gains.

  • Publication number: 20230388809
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a spectrum occupancy prediction, which employs a first trainable module and a second trainable module. The first and the second trainable modules predict spectrum occupancy at a respective first and second communication devices based on past occupancies and/or occupancies in adjacent subband(s). The prediction from the first trainable module and the second trainable module is input to a trainable output (third) module, which then provides the spectrum occupancy prediction.

  • Publication number: 20230208691
Abstract: A receiver of a User Equipment in a mixed numerology multi-service OFDM radio access network receives a control message for resource configuration from the base station instructing the receiver to remove a common (fixed duration) cyclic prefix (CP0) regardless of service type when demodulating received radio signals. Upon this instruction, the receiver implements the method of removing the common cyclic prefix (CP0) every L time domain symbols wherein L=2? for the service type that uses numerology ?. According to one embodiment, the common cyclic prefix (CP0) duration is chosen by the base station as the cyclic prefix of the service type with longest OFDM symbol in its mix of services. The receiver eliminates inter-numerology interference (INI) by equalizing the number of subcarriers used by all service types and their CP regardless of each service type's numerology.

  • Publication number: 20230208692
Abstract: An apparatus and method for a multi-service transmitter of an OFDM base station (BS) in a mixed numerology radio access network, wherein the transmitter uses a common cyclic prefix across all service types to eliminate inter-numerology interference (INI) by using a new Frequency Re-sampler (VR) component in the transmitter that converts streams of those services with smaller FFT sizes into a common larger FFT size in the frequency domain, which in effect increases their number of samples. The VR simply causes a multi-service transmitter to mimic a single-service transmitter thereby reducing the required number of ZF precoders to one and causing much fewer number of precoding operations. The transmitter sends resource configuration regarding the use of common CP for all services to each connected UE.

  • Publication number: 20230082251
Abstract: In the area of Joint Random Subcarrier Selection and Channel-Based Artificial Signal Design Aided PLS, a method for providing physical layer security (PLS) depending on the randomness of wireless channel is proposed. Specifically, a channel-based joint random subcarrier selection and artificial signal design are introduced to protect the communication in the presence of a passive eavesdropper which can be even stronger than the legitimate receiver. Our analysis assumes a window-based subcarrier selection method in which the strongest subcarriers in each window are selected. Chosen subcarriers are considered for secret sequence extraction. The generated channel dependent secret sequence is used for both random subcarrier selection and artificial signal design. We evaluate the efficiency of the proposed method through some representative metrics, such as secret sequence disagreement rate (SSDR), throughput and bit error rate (BER), in both perfect and imperfect channel estimation cases.

  • Publication number: 20230039446
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for a secure communication method having a secret key generation technique. The novelty of the proposed method stems from enhancing physical layer security (PHY) by using channel-adaptive keys, after manipulating a channel by introducing an artificial component into the channel. An adaptively designed artificial component is cascaded with the legitimate user’s channel. In an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system, subcarriers corresponding to a channel gain higher than a threshold value are selected to extract the keys. Since the number of the selected subcarriers is adaptive, the length of the generated key sequences is changing adaptively as well. Thus, the channel reciprocity property in a time division duplexing (TDD) system is utilized.

  • Publication number: 20230041106
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for blind identification of channel tap numbers in wireless communication by using deep neural networks (DNN). In the proposed method, it is possible to train a DNN using only the transmitted and received signals of a wireless system in order to obtain the number of channel taps. We propose a robust and efficient sparse representation technique for the identification of wireless channels. We estimate the number of channel taps which is considered as one of the sparse features of the hannel The blind estimation performed in the proposed system, enhances the spectral efficiency of the used wireless communication system since the employed DNN does not require to transmit extra signals for identifying the channel taps. In our identification method, physical insights are not available or used.

  • Publication number: 20220278856
Abstract: Three-dimensional (3D) printing is implemented to introduce randomness into systems and devices that are being manufactured. 3D printed physically unclonable wireless systems (PUWS) provide flexibility in system package complexity, number of physically unclonable function (PUF) based security measures/types, and customization of the PUF parameters. Using flexibility and economics of 3D printing, PUWS can combine multiple PUF measures in a 3D package for cryptographic secret keys and introduce PUFs at the physical layer of the communication system. A 3D printed wireless system packaging concept is described herein where 3D printing parameters are randomized to 1) generate new physically unclonable functions (at the physical layer), 2) generate new physically unclonable functions within the system package (rather than at integrated circuit (IC) level), and 3) combine multiple physically unclonable functions (such as optical and electrical/VIA based ones) within single device structure.
