    Abstract: The invention provides a method of preserving wood. The method involves applying to a wood substrate a precipitated copper salt. The precipitated copper salt is formed from a solution containing a copper-alkanolamine complex. The precipitated copper salt can be formed in situ, i.e., after the solution containing a copper-alkanolamine complex is applied to the wood, or prior to being applied to the wood.
