    Abstract: A new and improved tube or catheter for administrating or withdrawing a substance from the human body which can be temporarily attached to the tissue site. The catheter consists of a dual lumen, side-by-side, tube. One lumen is used to administer or withdraw a substance. The second lumen contains an attachment means consisting of a loop of filament extending beyond the both ends of the lumen in the second tube. During use the surgeon fixes a suture at the tissue site and ties the suture around the filament loop extending from the distal end of the second tube. The surgeon then grasps the proximal end of the filament and slides the catheter over the filament and the suture until it rests against the tissue attachment site. The filament or suture is then tied around the proximal end of the tube to hold the catheter in place. To remove the catheter, the surgeon cuts the suture where tied to the proximal end of the tube, pulls off the catheter, and slides the suture out of the tissue.

    Abstract: A straight, double-threaded arthrodesis screw that comprises a threaded compression nut mounted thereon. The screw consists of a shank containing distal right-handed threads for screwable connection with a threaded hole in the bone, proximal left-handed threads on which the compression nut is screwably mounted, and a longitudinal perforation for engagement with an installation tool. A hole is first drilled and tapped in the bone to provide an internal right-handed thread conforming to the distal threads of the arthrodesis screw. The screw is installed on the bone by screwably mounting its distal portion in the hole. The compression nut is then rotated toward the proximal cortex of the bone until it contacts the soft tissue surrounding the hole in the bone. The soft tissue is secured in place between the compression nut and the bone's cortical surface by further screwing the distal threads into the bone while preventing the compression nut from turning with respect to the clamped tissue.

    Abstract: A clamp and installation tool combination wherein the clamp portion comprises an elongated pin having a hook at both ends and containing multiple circumferential notches along its shaft. A clamp button with a central through-hole is mounted on the shaft of the pin and engages the notches so as to produce a ratchet-type mechanism that permits the motion of the button only in the direction of the distal end of the pin. The installation tool consists of a syringe-type applicator having an outer barrel containing a pin retention clip designed to engage the hook at the proximal end of the pin, so that the pin cannot move in relation to the barrel of the tool.

    Abstract: A method of administering post-operative anesthesia directly to the surgical site through a catheter introduced into the site during the post-operative procedure. The flow of medication into the catheter is regulated by a micro-bore cannula that insures delivery at very small rates. The plunger of a spring-loaded syringe creates the pressure that causes the medication to flow through the cannula and catheter into the wound. Because of the spring's nonlinear characteristics within the range of stroke of the plunger, the pressure exerted on the liquid gradually decreases with the expansion of the spring. By appropriately sizing the spring and the inside diameter of the cannula, a device is developed that administers the required dosages of anesthetic continuously and at decreasing rates.

    Abstract: Osteotomy appliance and method for correcting bone deformities. The appliance comprises a guide to be used by the surgeon to make a second cut in a bone in predetermined angular relationship to a first cut in the bone. In one type of osteotomy the method and appliance enable a precise wedge-shaped piece of bone to be excised, leaving perfectly mating surfaces on the bone segments to be reunited. The guide has associated therewith a follower adapted to be placed in the first saw cut. The guide is adjustable positioned in relation to the follower to guide the second saw cut in the desired position. The method involves creating a hole in the bone at approximately the apex of the bone piece to be removed and utilizing pin members disposed in the hole for positioning guides for the first and second saw cuts.
