  • Patent number: 5331795
Abstract: A mowing cutter unit for a mower including a rotary cutter and a stationary cutter coaxially overlapped to each other, the rotary cutter is formed in an approximately polygonal shape in plan view and is formed with recessed cutting portions each being curved in an approximately doglegged shape toward the rotational direction at each vortex portion thereof; and the stationary cutter is formed with projecting cutting portions slidably contacted with respective recessed cutting portions of the rotary cutter on the peripheral edge in such a manner that it is shaped in a loosely circular arc from the cutting base to the cutting leading edge and a crossing angle at which the projecting cutting portion is rubbed with a grass pushing-out portion of the recessed cutting portion is larger than a crossing angle at which it is rubbed with a grass taking-in portion of the recessed cutting portion.

  • Patent number: 5014765
Abstract: Molten metal is prevented from cooling too quickly when supplied to an injection sleeve of a casting device by applying a heat insulating powder onto an inner surface of the injection sleeve between each supply of molten metal. The heat insulating powder can be applied to the inner surface of the injection sleeve by way of an electrostatic field created between an electrode which has been inserted into the injection sleeve and the injection sleeve itself.

  • Patent number: 4999985
Abstract: This invention relates to an improvement of a mowing blade unit in which a rotary blade and a fixed blade are overlapped to each other in coaxial relation to each other so as to cut the weeds under rotation of the rotary blade, wherein the circumferential edges of the rotary blade are formed with concave-shaped blade positions curved toward its rotating direction, the circumferential edges of the fixed blade are formed with a plurality of convex-shaped blade portions oppositely and slidably contacting with the concave-shaped blade portions with a specified holding angle, thereby the concave-shaped blade portions at the circumferential edges of the rotary blade take weeds into areas between each of the convex-shaped blade portions at the circumferential edges of the fixed blade and the rotary blade to hold the weeds with the convex-shaped blade portions with a specified holding angle and to make a positive cutting of the weeds to improve an efficiency of cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 4706446
Abstract: A lawn mower having a housing and a cutter unit positioned below the housing. The cutter unit comprises an upper rotating cutting unit and a lower stationary cutting unit that is concentric with the upper cutting unit and which have a plurality of upper and lower blades at their borders. Each blade has a cutting surface with a near end close to the border, and a far end away from the border. The blades of the upper cutting unit extend in front of a line passing through the concentric axis and the near end, in the direction of rotation of the upper cutting unit. The upper blades rotate and slide over stationary lower blades, thereby cutting the lawn in a manner similar to a pair of scissors. The angle between the upper and lower blades is preferably 16-20 degrees.

  • Patent number: 4322934
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a lawn mower wherein a lawn mower body frame includes a motor and an operatively connected transmission. The lawn mower motor body frame is supported by front and rear wheels. At least the rear wheels are independently supported on separate shafts which are rotatably disposed with respect to the lawn mower body frame. Pulleys are positioned concentrically on each of the separate shafts in opposing, spaced apart relationship to define a gap therebetween. A belt is disposed in said gap and operatively connected to the motor through the transmission to impart rotation to the rear wheels. The pulleys, the separate shafts, and the rear wheels are positioned relative to each other to permit slippage therebetween to facilitate a change in the direction of the lawn mower.

  • Patent number: 4262475
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an apparatus and method for collecting the discharged grass clippings of a lawn mower. The lawn mower includes a discharge opening at the lateral side or the rear side of the lawn mower. Grass clippings are directed through the discharge opening to a conveyor member, thereafter the clippings are deposited in a catcher. The present invention does not require a high speed air flow to discharge the grass clippings. Further, since the grass clippings are discharged by a conveyor member into the top opening of a catcher the level of grass clippings positioned in the catcher may readily be observed so that it is very easy to determine when the catcher should be emptied.

  • Patent number: 4177963
Abstract: A cord winding apparatus for use in tautly winding and unwinding an electrical cord between an electro-motive apparatus and a power source. The cord winding apparatus includes a winding drum rotatably mounted and spring-connected to a drum shaft. An electrical power cord is folded into two pieces and attached to the drum such that the folded cord pieces wind from the same direction around the drum. A fixed arm is rigidly attached to the shaft to prevent shaft rotational movement. Front and rear cord guides are attached to the fixed arm to guide the cord pieces during winding and unwinding thereof around the drum. A pair of cup-like wheels are rotatably mounted on the shaft sandwiching the winding drum. The wheels carry the cord winding apparatus so that the winding drum can freely rotate about the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4126985
Abstract: Disclosed is a lawn mower having several pairs of rotatable blades attached to a rotatable frame. The rotatable frame is motor driven, and centrifugal forces cause a frictional engagement between blade driving means and a portion of the frame so that each pair of the blades assume a planetary rotary motion, yet are capable of movement away from obstacles. Each pair of blades consists of two overlapping circular blades that are in frictional engagement with each other and rotate in opposite directions to effect a cutting action.

  • Patent number: 4090346
Abstract: A lawn mower for cutting grass, comprises a frame having an open bottom and being closed on the sides except for a lateral discharge opening. A drive motor is supported on a top closed cover of the frame, and it includes a drive shaft which drives a rotatable cutter disc which is rotatably supported on a support member of the frame. At least one second cutter disc in the form of a counterdisc is supported on the support member superjacent the first cutter and overlapping a portion of the periphery thereof so that the cutting action on the grass is improved by the interaction of the first cutter and a second countercutter. In the preferred arrangement, the support member is formed in the form of a disc or a blade which is also rotated and it carries a transmission for rotating at least the cutter and preferably also the countercutter and at a speed which is different from the cutter speed. Preferably, a plurality of cutters and counter-rotating cutters are supported on a rotatable support member or blade.
