    Abstract: Disclosed is a coater 10 for a 3D printer, comprising an elongated container 30 comprising two opposing long side walls 32, 34 between which an internal cavity 36 is formed for receiving particulate material, the cavity 36 opening into an elongated output slot 38 for outputting the particulate material from the container 30 onto a construction field, and a first adjusting device 50 configured to move the two long side walls 32, 34 relative to each other at least in a respective lower portion 32a, 34a thereof adjoining the output slot 38 to thereby variably adjust the width of the output slot 38.
