  • Patent number: 7713674
Abstract: An emulsion polymerization process comprising polymerizing monomer in an emulsion in a reaction vessel at a first temperature to form a resin; cooling the reaction vessel to a second temperature that is above the softening point of the resin yet below the temperature required for significant depolymerization reaction to occur; and adding water to the cooled reaction vessel in an amount sufficient to effect phase inversion with mixing for a sufficient time to form an aqueous latex emulsion in the absence of a surfactant.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 9, 2005
Date of Patent: May 11, 2010
    Assignee: Xerox Corporation
Inventors: Allan Kwok-Wai Chen, Milan Maric, Tie Hwee Ng, George Liebermann, Enno Eric Agur, Hadi Khan Mahabadi
  • Patent number: 7276254
Abstract: A method of forming polymeric microspheres for biomedical applications includes forming polymeric microspheres by an emulsion/aggregation process from a precursor monomer species, and treating the polymeric microspheres to attach a biomedical functional material to the polymeric microspheres, where the polymeric microspheres have an average particle diameter of from about 1 to about 15 microns with a narrow particle geometric size distribution. The biomedical functional material may be, for example, a radioactive material, a radioactive precursor material, a bioactive agent, or a ligand.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 7, 2002
Date of Patent: October 2, 2007
    Assignee: Xerox Corporation
Inventors: Patricia Ann Burns, Raj D. Patel, Hadi Khan Mahabadi, Ronald F. Ziolo
