  • Patent number: 8218740
Abstract: A signaling node within a telecommunications network automatically detects that a signaling link is fluctuating in and out of service and provides hysteresis to the fluctuating signaling link. The signaling node includes a link controller that monitors the state(s) of the signaling link over a time period and a link blocking module that blocks the signaling link from carrying SS7 traffic when the signaling link fluctuates between a failed state and a stable state over the time period.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: July 10, 2012
    Assignee: Alcatel Lucent
Inventors: Hae Shyong Yeh, Thomas Lynn Ferguson, Maureen Rose O'Toole, Steven Eby
  • Patent number: 8130933
Abstract: A signal transfer point (STP) within a first telecommunications network enables recovery from a linkset failure between the first telecommunications network and a second telecommunications network by deactivating one or more affected signaling routes between the first and second telecommunications networks that include the failed linkset. The STP includes a linkset controller for monitoring the current state of the linkset coupled between the STP and an additional STP within the second telecommunications network. The STP further includes an input interface for receiving a deactivate common channel signaling (CCS) route command from a user when the current state of the linkset indicates failure of the linkset, and a signaling route control module that changes the route status for the affected signaling routes to “prohibited” to prevent SS7 traffic associated with the affected signaling routes from being sent over the linkset.

  • Patent number: 7391722
Abstract: A computerized method for determining a congestion level for a buffer associated with an SS7 link according to a first set of congestion rules includes receiving an abatement level and an onset level for the buffer. The method also includes generating, based on the received abatement level and the received onset level, more than two threshold levels for use by the congestion program. The congestion program is operable to generate a congestion level for the buffer according to a second set of rules different from the first set of rules. The method also includes providing the threshold levels to the congestion program, receiving from the congestion program a congestion level for the buffer based on the threshold values, the usage of the buffer, and the second set of rules, and converting the received congestion level into a converted congestion level.

  • Patent number: 7236582
Abstract: A signaling transfer point (STP) (or Signaling Server Global (SSG)) is described herein which includes a processor and a mapping database that can depending on the direction of a message change the Origination Point Code (OPC) or the Destination Point Code (DPC) and the Circuit Identification Code (CIC) contained in the message. As such, the STP can receive a message from a foreign switch located in another telecommunications network and redirect the message that was originally destined for an old switch, which is in the process being removed or has been removed, to a new switch which now hosts the trunks previously connected to the old switch. The return traffic from the new switch is also processed by the STP so that when the foreign switch receives the message, it will appear like it originated from the old switch. As a result, the user of the STP can transparently consolidate switches without affecting the SS7 database contained in other carrier networks.
