    Abstract: A backlight assembly includes a light source part, a total reflection plate and an array sheet. The light source part generates light. The total reflection plate totally internally reflects or transmits the light selectively according to an incident path of the light. The array sheet disposed on the total reflection plate includes a plurality of units having an incident surface making contact with the total reflection plate and an emitting surface facing the incident surface, refracts the totally internally reflected light at a contact surface between the incident surface and the total reflection plate to emit the refracted light, and emits the transmitted light as a non-refracted light. Accordingly, luminance of the display device is enhanced.

The elastic membrane prism array includes a prism body having a first chamber and a second chamber, a wall disposed between the first and second chamber, a prism plate connected to the wall, a piston adapted for moving back-and-forth and a transporting tube disposed between the piston and the prism body.

    Abstract: In a stereoscopic image conversion panel and a stereoscopic image display apparatus, the stereoscopic display panel includes a first lens substrate, a second lens substrate, a stereoscopic image lens part and a lens liquid crystal layer. The stereoscopic image lens part is disposed between the first and second substrates, and includes a main lens and sub-lenses with a concave shape. At least one sub-lens is disposed at opposite edge portions of the main lens. The lens liquid crystal layer is received by the main lens and the sub-lenses, is disposed between the first and second lens substrates, and includes liquid crystal molecules having an anisotropic refractive index. The lens liquid crystal layer refracts a polarized light at an interface between the lens liquid crystal layer and the stereoscopic lens part, to convert a flat image into a stereoscopic image. Therefore, the thickness of the stereoscopic image panel can be reduced.

A display device shows a two-dimensional and a three-dimensional image according to a mode of the electro-optic unit. A driving part may form the graded refractive index lens to have the same pitch as the pitch of the lens part. The graded refractive index lens may be formed as a convex lens or a Fresnel lens. The electro-optic unit is displayed to form the Fresnel lens. A driving method enhancing mode conversion velocity of the electro-optic unit is displayed.

The second substrate includes a common electrode opposition the individual electrodes. The liquid crystal layer is disposed between the first and second substrates. The light-blocking member is disposed on an area in correspondence with the individual electrode in which a voltage discontinuously varied is applied thereto. Thus, a liquid crystal lens panel of a Fresnel lens type is realized to decrease a liquid crystal cell gap, so that a process efficiency of the liquid crystal lens panel may be enhanced and a manufacturing cost of the liquid crystal lens panel may be reduced.

    Abstract: In a method for displaying a stereo-scopic image a border for each of multi-viewpoint images is formed around an edge of a display region, and each bordered multi-viewpoint image is converted into a synthetic image. The synthetic image is displayed as a stereo-scopic image in the display region through a lenticular lens inclined by a predetermined angle with respect to a display panel. Therefore, a two-dimensional image may be effectively converted into the stereo-scopic image decreasing saw-edged shapes at the border of the stereo-scopic image, improving display quality.
