  • Patent number: 5549146
Abstract: A pneumatic vehicle tire has a tire tread with circumferential grooves. Each one of the circumferential grooves has a groove base and groove flanks. At least one of the circumferential grooves has a wiper rib member connected integrally to the groove base and extending over the entire circumferential length of the circumferential groove such that the wiper rib member is connected to the groove base but is separate from the groove flanks. The wiper member has, when viewed radially outwardly, a lower portion and an upper portion, wherein the upper portion is divided by transverse grooves into member sections and the lower portion is continuous in the circumferential direction. The transverse grooves are slanted at an angle of 10.degree. to 40.degree. relative to the axial direction. The transverse grooves comprise a first set and a second set, with the transverse grooves of the first set oriented opposite to the transverse grooves of the second set.

  • Patent number: 5256221
Abstract: A pneumatic vehicle tire of a radial belt construction has a tire tread comprising first trapezoidal tread elements that are arranged in circumferential rows and slanted transverse rows whereby the circumferential rows and the slanted transverse rows are separated from one another by circumferential grooves and slanted transverse grooves. The first trapezoidal tread elements form pairs that are enclosed by adjacent ones of the circumferential grooves and adjacent ones of the slanted transverse grooves. The first trapezoidal tread elements of such a pair are arranged adjacent to one another within one of the slanted transverse rows in a mirror-symmetrical manner relative to one another and are staggered relative to one another in a circumferential direction of the tire. The tread elements of such a pair are separated by a short circumferential groove at a bottom of which a circumferential cross-piece is provided that connects the tread elements of the pair.

  • Patent number: 5246049
Abstract: A pneumatic vehicle tire which is especially suitable for non-driven axles of commercial vehicles is provided with wave-shaped circumferential grooves. The wave amplitude at the bottom of the groove is greater than at the tread periphery. This is achieved by periodically twisting the circumferential groove in the circumferential direction. The wave amplitude at the tread periphery may equal zero. In order to reduce the tendency to retain stones, it is suggested that the circumferential grooves in their center sections are provided with a transverse portion relative to the circumferential direction while in the extreme section further portions extend at a small acute angle relative to the circumferential direction.

  • Patent number: 5205879
Abstract: A profiled pneumatic vehicle tire is provided that comprises a tread surface that includes grooves that, when viewed in plan, extend at an angle relative to the circumferential direction of the tire. The grooves have sides that extend at an angle relative to a radial line. The distance between successive grooves in the circumferential direction is modulated in conformity with a pitch sequence that varies the excitation frequency, so that positive profiling portions having varying dimensions in the circumferential direction are provided between the grooves. Not only the dimension of the grooves in the circumferential direction are also modulated in conformity with the pitch sequence, but the tangent of the angle of the sides of the grooves are also modulated in conformity with the pitch sequence.

  • Patent number: 4747435
Abstract: A pneumatic vehicle tire having a tread strip that is provided with zig-zagged grooves that essentially extend in the circumferential direction of the tire. In order to be able to expel small foreign objects from the tread profile, and in addition in order to be able to increase the traction, those edges of the tread surface that project the furthest toward the grooves are provided with notches that are delimited by V-shaped faces. The notches extend radially inwardly essentially to the base of the grooves. The plane of symmetry of each of the notches is determined by the V-shaped faces, and extends transerse to the circumferential direction of the tire.

  • Patent number: 4542778
Abstract: A pneumatic tire, the tread of which is provided with zigzagged grooves. In order to keep rocks or similar solid foreign objects from getting stuck in the tread recesses, and in order to have these rocks drop out of the tread when the associated tire axis pivots, the side faces or the zigzagged grooves are stepped. Furthermore, the step faces, which extend approximately transverse to the circumferential direction of the tire, are disposed at an incline to a plane which extends through the main axis of the tire. Side faces which merge into one another via a given step face are parallel to one another, yet are staggered relative to one another by the width of this step face. The step faces are upwardly inclined at approximately 15.degree. to 25.degree..
