Patent number: 11392870Abstract: Estimating maintenance for a storage system includes accessing a model that outputs time and materials estimates based on input configuration data, providing configuration data of the storage system to the model, and obtaining an estimate of maintenance time and materials based on the configuration data provided to the model. The model may be provided by a neural network, which may be a self-organized map. Weights of neurons of the self-organized map may be initialized randomly. The model may be initially configured using training data that may include an I/O load of the storage system, memory size of the storage system, a drive count of the storage system, and/or size and parameter information corresponding to hardware being added for the maintenance operation. The training data may include actual time and materials for prior storage system maintenance operations used for the training data. The model may be provided on the storage system.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2020Date of Patent: July 19, 2022Assignee: EMC IP Holding Company LLCInventors: Hagit Brit-Artzi, Malak Alshawabkeh, Arieh Don

Patent number: 9383940Abstract: Described are techniques for performing data migration for a source logical volume and a target. The target is configured as storage for another mirror of the source logical volume prior to copying data from the source logical volume to the target, and if the target is configured storage of another logical volume of the data storage system, the configured storage is remapped as storage for another mirror of the source logical volume prior to copying data from the source logical volume to the target. One or more invalid bits are set indicating that the target does not contain a valid copy of data from the source logical volume. Data is copied from the first mirror of the source logical volume to the target. Invalid bits are cleared as data portions of the first mirror of the source logical volume are copied to the target.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2014Date of Patent: July 5, 2016Assignee: EMC CorporationInventors: Stephen Richard Ives, John F. Madden, Jr., Michael Dudnik, Hagit Brit-Artzi, Roii Raz, Hui Wang, Gabi Hershkovitz, Qun Fan, Ofer Michael

Patent number: 7873835Abstract: Restricting access to a device includes obtaining a passphrase for a user, obtaining access credentials for the user, obtaining a PIN value for the user, one-way encrypting at least the access credentials and the PIN using a secret key provided with the device. The user is allowed access to the device if the result of one-way encrypting equals the passphrase. The user is denied access to the device if the result of one-way encrypting does not equal the passphrase. The device may be a storage device. The access credentials may include a username that identifies the user and may include a role for the user. The access credentials may include a time period for which access is allowed. Access may be subsequently revoked in response to the current date and time being greater than the time period for which access is allowed.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2006Date of Patent: January 18, 2011Assignee: EMC CorporationInventors: Yedidia Atzmony, David J.
