  • Patent number: 6244696
Abstract: Disclosed is a flexible circuit that has a nozzle member formed therein with the nozzle member including a plurality of ink orifices and the flexible circuit having electrical leads. A substrate containing a plurality of heating elements and associated ink ejection chambers and having electrodes to which the electrical leads are bonded is mounted on a back surface of the nozzle member. Each heating element is located proximate to an associated ink orifice with the back surface of the nozzle member extending over two or more outer edges of the substrate. A print cartridge body having a headland portion is located proximate to the back surface of the nozzle member and includes an inner raised wall circumscribing the substrate with an adhesive support surface formed thereon and having wall openings therein. The wall openings have an adhesive support surface and an elevated substrate support surface raised above the adhesive support surface for supporting the substrate.

  • Patent number: 5988786
Abstract: An orifice membrane is provided an articulation parallel to the rows of orifices and between the area of the orifice membrane secured to the cartridge body and the area of the orifice membrane secured to the barrier layer of the heater resistor substrate. • Patent number: 5748209
Abstract: A TAB circuit particularly suited for an ink jet pen and method of manufacture. A TAB circuit is presented which incorporates a central isolation area within the TAB circuit and an ESD protective ring which surrounds the TAB circuit. To facilitate plating, all of the active TAB traces are shorted together by individual plating interconnects located generally within the central isolation area. These interconnects are arranged in a staggered pattern such that sufficient clearance is available to punch out the interconnects without damaging an adjacent trace. The central isolation area is positioned between the TAB circuit window and the terminal pads. When the TAB circuit is mounted on an ink jet pen, the central isolation area is in a "wrap area" of the pen so no additional TAB circuit area is required over what is needed to properly position the TAB circuit on the pen.

  • Patent number: 5198834
Abstract: A pen head (14) for a drop-on-demand ink jet pen is disclosed along with its method of manufacture. The pen head utilizes a barrier wall (24) located between a substrate (20) and an orifice plate (22). Ink (17) flows through the pen head in channels defined in the barrier wall. The barrier wall is fabricated in two layers (58,60) from cured, photoimaged resist materials. One layer (58) is a soldermask material; and the other (60), a photolithographic resist material. The two layers together resist chemical attack by the inks and mechanical separation of the orifice plate (22) from the pen head.
