Publication number: 20240275119Abstract: Some semiconductor gain chips used for both optically pumped and electrically pumped semiconductor lasers contain transparent layers for cooling or other purposes. These layers may cause unwanted etalon effect if one or more of the transparent layers are inside the laser cavity. The present invention provides a way to remove such unwanted etalon effect, by angling the chip away from the beam axis, and dimensioning the elements of the chip, so that any etalon effect in the transparent layers is substantially avoided, while the etalon effect in the semiconductor gain structure is preserved.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 2, 2023Publication date: August 15, 2024Applicant: Pavilion Integration CorporationInventors: Haiwen Wang, Ningyi Luo

Publication number: 20230402810Abstract: The present invention provides a way to use anisotropic laser gain media to make a laser that can lase in two longitudinal modes at different wavelengths with orthogonal polarizations. The two longitudinal mode (LM) laser output can be separated to generate two single LM outputs. This type of lasers can also be used to generate low noise continuous wave (CW) harmonics through intracavity harmonic generation.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2023Publication date: December 14, 2023Applicant: Pavilion Integration CorporationInventors: Haiwen Wang, Ningyi Luo, Jihchuang Robin Huang

Publication number: 20230335969Abstract: This invention proposes to use a specially designed layered nonlinear optic (LNO) for intracavity harmonic generation. The LNO generates the harmonic and guides the generated harmonic beam to a different path from the fundamental beam path with total internal reflection, a phenomenon that all lights are reflected when lights in one (“internal”) optic strike sufficiently obliquely against the interface with a second (“external”) optic, in which the refractive index is lower than that in the internal optic. No coating is necessary for the harmonic inside the fundamental beam laser cavity. The generated harmonic beam does not travel through any surface inside the fundamental beam cavity, either. Hence this invention improves the reliability of intracavity harmonic generation laser especially if the harmonic is in the UV range.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 24, 2022Publication date: October 19, 2023Applicant: Pavilion Integration CorporationInventors: Haiwen Wang, Jihchuang Robin Huang, Ningyi Luo

The second kernel is configured to apply a second convolution different than the first convolution on a second frequency of the incident polarized light and the second frequency is different than the first frequency such that the stack 3D metasurface provides at least two independent convolutions on the incident polarized light.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 8, 2022Publication date: October 12, 2023Applicants: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc., The Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior UniversityInventors: Shanhui Fan, Ercan Mehmet Dede, Sean P. Publication number: 20230288705Abstract: An output grating for waveguide of a head-mounted display is configured to suppress the (1, 1) diffraction order of the output grating. The grating has a design of two or more materials having different refractive indices. The design is repeated periodically in a first dimension and repeated periodically in a second dimension, to form a two-dimensional pattern. A refractive index of the two-dimensional pattern is approximated by a two-dimensional Fourier series comprising a first coefficient of order (1, 0), a second coefficient of order (0, 1), and a third coefficient of order (1, 1). The third coefficient is less than half the first coefficient and less than half the second coefficient, such that light from the (1, 1) diffraction order of the grating is suppressed.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 11, 2022Publication date: September 14, 2023Applicant: Meta Platforms Technologies, LLCInventors: Haiwen Wang, Yu Shi, Siddharth Buddhiraju, Hee Yoon Lee

Patent number: 7903701Abstract: Lasers configured for intracavity harmonic generation of second and higher order harmonic laser beam energy include mode-matching optics, such as a curved mirror, for recycling an unused portion of an intermediate harmonic laser beam energy (e.g., second harmonic laser beam energy) to improve higher order harmonic laser beam energy generation efficiency (e.g., third or higher order harmonic laser beam energy generation efficiency) without sacrificing beam quality of the higher order harmonic laser beam energy. The curved mirror may be positioned out of a resonant laser cavity of the laser. A radius of curvature and a position of the curved mirror are selected so that a beam radius and a beam divergence of the recycled second harmonic laser beam energy are essentially the same as a beam radius and a beam divergence of incoming second harmonic laser beam energy everywhere along a beam path of the incoming second harmonic laser beam.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2009Date of Patent: March 8, 2011Assignee: Electro Scientific Industries, Inc.Inventors: Fuzheng Zhou, Jufen Hua, legal representative, Haiwen Wang, Chung-Po Huang
