  • Patent number: 9393772
Abstract: A system for registering printing presses includes printing stations for printing color images on a web includes an imager acquiring images of a web common area. The acquired image includes a portion of a color image associated with a printing station and a portion of one other color image associated with an un-registered printing station and a processor, coupled with the imager. A portion of the color image is registered with a portion of the other color image according to two monochrome images, each corresponding to a color image printed on the common area and determined according to the location of each pixel of the acquired image in a color separation space, the location is determined according to the projected location on a color projection plane. The portion of the one color image is registered with the portion of the one other color image with a reference image.

  • Patent number: 5956000
Abstract: A digital image display system and method for displaying a digital image in a large format are provided. The system includes a frame buffer for storing the digital image, which is projected via a plurality N of projection units. Each projection unit projects a section of the digital image which is 1/Nth of the digital image plus an overlap portion of each of its neighboring sections. Thus, when the sections are projected, the portions of the image corresponding to the edges between projection units will be overlapped. The intensities of the overlapped portions are typically modulated to ensure that, in the large format image, the overlapped portions receive the same amount of illumination as the non-overlapped portions. The resultant image will have no seams between projection units. The projection units are assumed to be mis-aligned and the misalignment is compensated for by transforming each section of the image in accordance with the misalignment of the projection.

  • Patent number: 5731846
Abstract: A method and system for implanting an image onto a selected one at a time of a plurality of video frames representing a stream of action occurring within a background space, the space having fixed planar surfaces and being scanned by at least one video camera. The method also includes a step of generating a model of a selected one of the fixed surfaces, the model includes a representation of geometrical features characterizing the surface. The model also includes a step of utilizing the model to perspectively distort the image so as to provide it in generally the same perspective of the selected frame, a step of producing a background mask of the selected frame, the frame includes at lest a portion of the fixed surface, the background mask defines changeable regions of the selected frame and unchangeable regions thereof and the step of blending the perspectively distorted image into the selected portion of the changeable region, thereby implanting said image into said selected frame.

  • Patent number: 5491517
Abstract: A system and method which mixes images, such as an advertisement, with a video stream of action occurring within a relatively unchanging space, such as a playing field, is disclosed. The system utilizes a model of the background space to change the video stream so as to include the image at some location within the background space. It includes a video frame grabber and an image implantation system. The frame grabber grabs a single frame of the video signal at one time. The image implantation system typically implants the grabbed image into the frame onto a predefined portion of a preselected one of the surfaces of the background space if the portion is shown in the frame. To determine the location of the portion to have implantation, the image implantation system includes a unit for receiving a) a flat model of the fixed surfaces and b) an image mask indicating the portion of the flat model onto which the image is to be mixed.

  • Patent number: 5339176
Abstract: There is disclosed technique and apparatus for calibrating a color processing device. The technique includes the steps of comparing a first digital representation of a colored image with a second digital representation thereof and employing at least the transformation to control operation of the color processing device to be calibrated. The first digital representation defines a plurality of first non-scalar color values and the second digital representation defines a plurality of second non-scalar color values corresponding to the plurality of the first non-scalar color values, thereby to provide a transformation pairing each individual one of the first non-scalar color values with a value relatively close to the corresponding one of the second non-scalar color values. The color processing device may be calibrated generally without reference to human aesthetic judgement.

  • Patent number: 5150225
Abstract: A technique for generating a screened reproduction of an image is disclosed. The technique includes the steps of providing a representation of an original having input density values of the original, storing information representing a plurality of contours of desired dot configurations, corresponding to various possible density values for a multiplicity of screened dots, determining, for each coordinate pair of a plotter, whether the coordinate pair lies inside or outside of the contour of a dot corresponding to the input density value of the original and operating the plotter to write only if the coordinate pair lies inside the contour, thereby to produce the multiplicity of screen dots of sizes representing the input density values of the original. Apparatus employing the method is also provided.
